I have noticed that the hallyu/korean wave is only credited to BTS, but BLACKPINK, a mega group has not been mentioned alongside their name. BLACKPINK has immensely contributed to the Korean economy, and I suggest you do give credit where it is due. They have over 6 videos surpassing 1 billion views on youtube and has racked 14B streams on spotify. Please consider my request. Kiliniliba12 (talk) 03:34, 7 November 2024 (UTC)
- I don't see any reliable sources proving their importance, and that makes sense given their start in 2016, which is rather late for the second hallyu. Drmies (talk) 03:38, 7 November 2024 (UTC)
Criticism
[edit]In the past, there have been reports about backslash against Korean popular culture, in Japan, China, Thailand, or Turkey, mainly by politicians. But back then, K-pop or K-drama wasn't that popular in the West. It only became mainstream after BTS. Currently, Korea as a whole receives lots of backslash on Western sites or apps like Youtube, Reddit, Instagram and also by Influencers on TikTok, leading to focus on negative news and expansion of fake news.
There is an interesting paper observing the topic, stating that haters of K-pop usually feel anxious and threatened by K-pop. Also, good news about South Korea would trigger hate comments against South Korea as the surge about positive news wouldn't fit the netizens' prejudices against South Korea and their world view. That's why positive news about South Korea would trigger hate comments and the search for negative aspects.

There are also other interesting articles, but I didn't read them yet.

AI
[edit]Flagged one section of this for AI, details: text added 2024 here; note WP:AISIGNS e.g. superficial analyses/promotionality/AIVOCAB all over the place, specifically signs typical of 2024 LLM text
There was a lot of pre-existing non-AI content on tourism but it seems to have been gutted in 2022, and now we have AI slop in its place. Gnomingstuff (talk) 05:16, 9 July 2026 (UTC)
- Yeah that edit looks bad and seems AI generated.
- An aside: Regarding the cuts I made to the article in 2023, this article had become a coatrack for things that were only incidentally related to the Korean Wave (or Korean pop culture in general). Even as it stands the article is pretty big at about 7,000 words, but it had 20,306 words before my edits! I tried my best to better center the article around book and journal sources where the primary focus is on the Korean Wave. ~ F4U (talk • they/it) 01:20, 12 July 2026 (UTC)
