KittenKlub, do the sources explicitly describe the place as a village? I can't identify it in the map on the Christian Hospital's website, and all the Thai online mentions I found are only in relation to the railway (though the flooding was long ago, so it's not ruled out). --Paul_012 (talk) 11:06, 2 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
It's not explicitly mentioned as a village. There was mentioning of natives nearby, but then again even deep in the jungle, there are always some people nearby.KittenKlub (talk) 11:14, 2 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
Upon further searching, there's this post from the same Facebook page I mentioned earlier, which features a map showing a label for "Ban Kroeng Kruai", so it has indeed been documented as a village (though the post mentions that it no longer seemed to exist by 1956). Another post from the page suggests that the tha in "Kroeng Kruai Tha" (which became Kongkoita in Japanese pronunciation) is Karen for 'river' or 'stream', though I can't confirm this. --Paul_012 (talk) 14:14, 2 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Paul 012: About the village. Australian War Memorial has this picture taken at the Khwae Noi River near Konkoita, and there are houses in the background and (barely visible) a Karen woman washing in the river. It's a shame that we can't take those pictures even though they are PD in Australia, because the servers are in the US which has a 1929 cut-off. KittenKlub (talk) 15:48, 2 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
Looking at Template:PD-Australia, it seems that before the 2005 Copyright Act amendment, copyright for photographs in Australia lasted 50 years since creation. So a WW2 photo would have entered PD just before the URAA restoration date of 1996, meaning that they should be fine unless they were also previously published in the US. --Paul_012 (talk) 16:15, 2 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
