Close paraphrasing vs quoting

[edit]

As I have dealt with this issue in the past I would like to preemptively remind other users to understand the difference between cited quotes and close paraphrasing before describing the former as the latter if Earwig or another tool does so. Red Phoenician (talk) 06:46, 10 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

Killing of Pierre al-RahiKilling of Pierre el-Rahi – Misspelled name as the actual article refers to him as Pierre el-Rahi. Wikiman (Talk) 18:13, 20 July 2026 (UTC)  Relisting. 1isall (talk | contribs) 18:32, 27 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

  • Comment: I cannot tell which is the correct spelling.

@Raskuly The first one is generally the correct spelling, as per multiple news outlets on the original article as well as the title. Wikiman (Talk) 21:04, 27 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
I support this move as it should match the victim's article per WP:CONSISTENT. Due to uncertainty, it is best to just go with the status quo and to note in both articles that the subject's name is sometimes spelled "al-Rahi". Raskuly 🐰 21:18, 27 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
