Which John Kelly?

[edit]

There seems to be some dispute as to which John Kelly managed the 1887-88 Louisville Colonels. Retrosheet lists John O. "Kick" Kelly as said manager, while Baseball Reference shows it as John F. "Honest John" Kelly as their manager. I'll stick with Kick due to my preference for using Retrosheet, but I just thought I'd note this somewhere. -Dewelar (talk) 00:55, 23 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Per this , from The Society for American Baseball Research (pages 7-9), John O. Kelly / Kick Kelly also had the nickname "Honest John Kelly", and is the John Kelly who managed the Colonels. So Baseball-Reference appears to be mistaken here, although it is hardly conclusive. Rlendog (talk) 01:44, 23 October 2009 (UTC)Reply
Another source confirming that the John Kelly born in 1856 was the Louisville manager. Rlendog (talk) 02:45, 23 October 2009 (UTC)Reply
