Rewrite paragraph

[edit]

"After Khazaria fell, many nations claimed to have Khazar lineage and Turkic origin. In late 19th century a group of scholars claimed that Ashkenazi Jews in Europe are descended from Khazars. Back then theory politically supported by Nazi German intellectuals to legitimize war crimes and the Holocaust. In modern academia theory rarely finds a mention. and generally associated with antisemitism and anti-Zionism."

This section has poor English. Please rewrite it. 5.20.199.34 (talk) 09:36, 25 May 2025 (UTC)Reply

It isn't just poor English, it is gibberish. No Nazis in the late 19th century. Zerotalk 11:53, 25 May 2025 (UTC)Reply
pretty obvious "back then" refers to the 1900s rather than 19th century. ~2025-39131-17 (talk) 01:34, 9 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
of course you are in the khazar page lmfao ~2026-31170-81 (talk) 04:44, 25 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
Zero in th Khazar page is like finding Mengele in Hitler's bunker ~2026-31170-81 (talk) 04:45, 25 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
Zero and other banned pro-Palestinians are all over the Khazar page going back fifteen years. This is the funniest and most absurd reality about debate on Wikipedia re i/p. ~2026-35068-65 (talk) 03:50, 16 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

Change the lead from "southeastern Russia" (which would be Russia's east near N Korea, China and Japan) to "southwestern Russia" which would then properly link to European Russia. The editor that added the line made an east/west swap mistake.

BTW: I am human. I am manually editing. hCaptcha is a prefereable human testing mechanism since Google took part in the Gaza genocide. And since it's a visual test, I can understand hCaptcha wishing to interrogate my browser canvas and client rectangles; but I strongly object to the Plugin Enumeration as a violation of my privacy. Temporarily allowed for this edit. ~2026-16500-07 (talk) 10:22, 16 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

I understand the concern. It is reasonable, but I see a potential concern about "southwestern Russia" especially for people who are NOT thinking of modern Russia. The concept of Russia in the era of the Khazars is quite fuzzy, and it is potentially a source of confusion and sensitivity regarding modern Russia (and modern Ukraine). I've made a different tweak which I hope is a suitable solution.--Andrew Lancaster (talk) 14:04, 16 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

"The latter based upon the assertion of the Persian historian Istakhri, the Khazar language was different from any other known tongue"

I think that part needs to be changed. Because in source note it says "al-Iṣṭakhrī's account however then contradicts itself by likening the language to Bulğaric"

This point is extremely important to the paragraph. A better version would be something like this:

"The latter based upon the assertion of the Persian historian Istakhri, the Khazar language was different from any other known tongue, however, later he contradicts itself by linkening Khazar language to Bulgar language."

Not everyone will read the note. In the source, this part appears as a single paragraph, so there is no need to separate half of it into a note while leaving the other half in the main text. ~2026-32273-61 (talk) 20:08, 30 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Done in part. The point about al-Iṣṭakhrī's contradictory description is relevant to the sentence, so I have incorporated it into the prose. I did not use the proposed wording because it had grammar and formatting problems.Ktkvtsh (talk) 07:42, 19 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
