Lack of any LGBTQ references

This article seems purposely purged of any references to the historical or present links to the LGBTQ community. Not only are these real and strong, but the migration of LGBTQ members, great artists like Tennessee Williams and Leonard Bernstein to ordinary gay citizens looking for a quiet life away from hatred, is responsible for bolstering the economy of the island to this day. I am not an amateur historian but many of you are and I hope someone will take initiative to add a well referenced section on the topic to this article. 108.7.160.150 (talk) 14:19, 6 August 2022 (UTC)

There are two issues to consider. First, are there reliable sources about the LGBTQ community in Key West? Second, if reliable sources exist, how significant is that community in the city? Note that the requirement for reliable sources is set in stone, the question of significance to and suitability for the article is subject to community discussion. If you are aware of reliable sources, you can add relevant material to the article that is supported by those reliable sources, with citations. There was an entire section, which was blanked (https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Key_West&oldid=923201853) by an anonymous editor because "Complete irrelevant. Only inserted to push a personal agenda." Key West advertises having the oldest continuous Pride festival, the first openly gay mayor, etc. as a major part of its tourism and PR; acknowledging that is hardly pushing a personal agenda, but trying to pretend it's not true certainly is. I'm going to revert that blanking, but someone should look for better sources than FloridaSmart. Also... Is it appropriate to source websites like Visit Florida Keys, Key West Business Guild, etc.? These are clearly primary, not secondary, sources as far as current marketing for gay tourism to Key West. But they also have a whole lot of information on the history of how things went from private parties at Truman Capote's place to the city deciding to openly advertise for gay tourists in the early 80s; are they valid secondary sources for that? --~2025-43999-99 (talk) 18:36, 30 December 2025 (UTC)

Southern most point question

"Key West is an island"

"Key West is the southernmost city in the contiguous United States"

The phrase contiguous United States, as it's almost always used, includes the islands off the coast of the 48 mostly-contiguous states (while excluding Alaska, Hawaii, and island possessions like Guam). Manhattan is part of the contiguous US, and so is Key West. Is that "etymologically justifiable"? Maybe; maybe it refers to the contiguous states (including their non-contiguous parts) rather than the contiguous parts of the United States, or maybe islands on the continental shelf or within 10 miles or whatever should still count as contiguous... but it doesn't matter whether everyone has a good reason for using "contiguous United States" this way; only that everyone _does_ use it this way. --~2025-43999-99 (talk) 18:43, 30 December 2025 (UTC)

Image gallery in infobox

Hello. I have been editing this article for some time now because I think a few aspects of it seem a bit outdated. I was wondering if we need to have an image gallery in the infobox for the City section, as the infobox already seems cluttered. Instead, we could move the images to the #Notable places subsection, and use this cleaner infobox instead. This follows the format of Martha's Vineyard or Nantucket. Conch house

There doesn't seem to be any mention of the Conch house in the article. As the "Conch house" reportly originated in Key West, I think it should be mentioned, but I'm not sure where it would best fit in. Donald Albury 21:40, 2 December 2025 (UTC)
