Nonsensical comparison = bad information

Saying that the planet is "about 40 times closer to its star than Mercury is to the Sun" is a nonsense measurement: closer as in further from what?-- would infinity have to be the starting point? My hunch is that this is supposed to mean that it's one fortieth the distance to its star, compared to Mercury to its.
