Kearny was NOT "Calle de Fundacion", should be Grant

[edit]

Calle de Fundacion does NOT match any "modern" streets of San Francisco. If you must pick a particular street, it most closely matches Grant/Dupont, according to description as given in "Defining San Francisco" by TrampsOfSanFrancisco article

Most references credit Grant as Calle de Fundacion.

"Turn right onto Grant Avenue. Originally called Calle de Fundacion, this is Chinatown's main drag." -- AAA Walking Tours, Chinatown

"...Until the 1870s, it (Portsmouth Square) was the center of the city. The beach ran along Montgomery Street, a block to the ast, and city's first main street, the Calle de Fundacion, roughly followed Grant Avenue one block to the west..." National Trust Guide: San Francisco
