History

Katwal are the people who are found generally in Hilly and Mountains reason of central Nepal. Katwal, Katuwal, Katawal all are the origins of the same blood who share a common clan (Gotra) named Mandab. Every Katwal, Katuwal or Katawal are brothers and sisters as their origin is from a single Katwal. Katwal belongs to Chettri Ancestory who were usually warrior, fighters or soldiers. The caste Katwal was originated from 'Kotwal' (meaning Kot: A place where arms, ammunition and weapons are kept) and these people were the Clan those served for war and keeping people safe from attacks. They used to be look after every war and usually were the Chief General of the army.

According to history, Kotwals were unbeaten in war and people were afraid of their fierce war attacks, their huge body size and temper. The whole clan shared a common ancestor of Chettri they used to be short tempered and anger full of destruction. So, their enemy used their temper as their weakness and slowly they started the Tactics of Divide and Rule as they made fight among their families and relatives. This was a huge advantage to their enemy and because of the temper soon the Kotwal started to kill one among each other. The King then was afraid that no one of Kotwal will be alive and then he vanished the youngest son of the then General. The same Katwal's blood run through every single Katwal whose ancestory belong to Nepali Katwal Soon after the massacre of the Royal Warrior Family they were scattered. Many of them who saved their life went out of the country (The Recent Nepal) to different parts of South East Asia like India, Pakistan and Afghanistan and started living with different names. This is the true reason that still Katwal are very few in numbers in the country.
