I am removing the link * Saudi Cooking This like goes to a site which contains within its text for pornography sites; and, does not contain the information for which this link was placed with this article. Victorsteelballs (talk) 04:51, 11 June 2016 (UTC)Reply

Contradiction on origin

[edit]

First sentence of the article states kabsa "originates from Saudi Arabia". Third sentence says it's "believed to be indigenous to Yemen". Only one of those two statements can be correct. Someone more knowledgeable about Saudi/Yemeni cuisine, please help resolve this contradiction! Thank you --Chumash11 (talk) 01:04, 18 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Chumash11 it got fixed Al-Aidaroos 17:25, 31 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
Kabsa originate in Saudi Arabia and it’s the national dish of Saudi Arabia There is no books or any kind of information that proves that the origin of kabsa in yeman and in the Arabic version of wikipedia says it’s originated in Saudi However kabsa is totally different from mandi and majboos they can’t be in the same category every country has its own spices and techniques, thanks for your service 💕 Yari14222 (talk) 09:43, 19 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Kabsa is originally from Saudi Arabia not Yemen. In Yemen they don’t eat Kabsa, they have almost similar dishes but have different names and spices. Abuzinadah (talk) 23:45, 24 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

[edit]

I’m from Saudi Arabia and that is NOT what the dish looks like most of the time. PLEASE, PLEASE!! Just change it, it icks me off, that’s the most vile image known to man :( Cometkeiko (talk) 18:13, 28 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

+1 AboSalamah (talk) 17:47, 7 May 2025 (UTC)Reply
You're free to take an image of the dish yourself and upload it on Wikimedia Commons and use it here. 𐩣𐩫𐩧𐩨 Abo Yemen (𓃵) 17:50, 7 May 2025 (UTC)Reply

@Abo Yemen The page is protected :/ also it originated in Saudi, and I think the number 1 cite is random (correct me if I'm wrong) AboSalamah (talk) 17:53, 7 May 2025 (UTC)Reply
The page is protected
Upload it and I'll place the image. Is there a reason for you to doubt that citation? If not, then WP:AGF 𐩣𐩫𐩧𐩨 Abo Yemen (𓃵) 17:57, 7 May 2025 (UTC)Reply
@Abo Yemen I mean you can view the source for yourself, it seems random and it doesn't mention the fact that the dish is "Yemeni", a better source is needed AboSalamah (talk) 18:00, 7 May 2025 (UTC)Reply
@AboSalamah  Done 𐩣𐩫𐩧𐩨 Abo Yemen (𓃵) 18:18, 7 May 2025 (UTC)Reply
@Abo Yemen it didn't originate in Yemen tho AboSalamah (talk) 18:27, 7 May 2025 (UTC)Reply
I got you sources that say that it did, tho. Just outright denying it isn't going to work 𐩣𐩫𐩧𐩨 Abo Yemen (𓃵) 18:29, 7 May 2025 (UTC)Reply
Where are they? The sources you added just say that Yemenis eat it there pretty much, not saying that it originated there
Palestinians eat Kabsa as well, it doesn't mean they made it AboSalamah (talk) 18:31, 7 May 2025 (UTC)Reply
Saudi Times: Kabsa is a mixed rice dish prepared with meat or chicken and infused with aromatic spices like cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, and black lime. Though its origins trace back to Yemen, Kabsa has become a staple across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, often regarded as the national dish of Saudi Arabia and Qatar.

"SaudiTimes" isn't a governmental source let alone a reliable one lmao, it's literally the national dish of Saudi AboSalamah (talk) 18:43, 7 May 2025 (UTC)Reply
Arabic "official" sources don't agree with it originating from Saudi. They say that it originated from Spain 𐩣𐩫𐩧𐩨 Abo Yemen (𓃵) 18:51, 7 May 2025 (UTC)Reply
That's also not a governmental source as far as I'm concerned
Government-controlled Saudipedia says "Saudi Kabsa"

yeah saudi-pedia and saudi-kabsa. Very reliable 𐩣𐩫𐩧𐩨 Abo Yemen (𓃵) 19:04, 7 May 2025 (UTC)Reply
Your citations are: a personal-made blog with no sources to back its claims, a cook book saying "Yemeni Kabsa" (there's also "Pakistani" Biryani, that doesn't mean Biryani originated in Pakistan) and a Yemeni restaurant AboSalamah (talk) 19:10, 7 May 2025 (UTC)Reply
Tbh I'd rather have it say "that originates from the Arabian Peninsula" instead, as the dish is older than both the modern states of Saudi Arabia and Yemen, and because there are no sources that talk about its actual history, and sources are divided between calling it Saudi or Yemeni. What do you think? 𐩣𐩫𐩧𐩨 Abo Yemen (𓃵) 18:27, 7 May 2025 (UTC)Reply
Mandi is older than Yemen yet the Wikipedia article says that its the place of its origin https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mandi_(food)
Kabsa originated in Saudi land by Bedouins, it's also the national dish of Saudi Arabia, the place of origin is Saudi, not Yemen AboSalamah (talk) 18:34, 7 May 2025 (UTC)Reply
Mandi's origins aren't disputed, hence there is no need to remove state names. 𐩣𐩫𐩧𐩨 Abo Yemen (𓃵) 18:41, 7 May 2025 (UTC)Reply
@Abo Yemen the citations you put are all not RSs AboSalamah (talk) 18:53, 7 May 2025 (UTC)Reply
All sources are reliable unless there is a reason to doubt their reliability. This is a pointless discussion. Don't forget to take and upload an image of an actual Kabsa when you go out eating! 𐩣𐩫𐩧𐩨 Abo Yemen (𓃵) 18:58, 7 May 2025 (UTC)Reply
Personal-made blogs aren't reliable sources, especially when they're not providing their sources
There's 0 evidence of the dish originating in Yemen AboSalamah (talk) 19:05, 7 May 2025 (UTC)Reply
@AboSalamah if you have a problem with the Saudi Times source, then raise it at the WP:RSN. But dismissing the source as "
blog (pretty much)" when it is clearly not a blog isn't going to work here 𐩣𐩫𐩧𐩨 Abo Yemen (𓃵) 12:33, 13 May 2025 (UTC)Reply
It's still not a reliable source. It relies on rumors and doesn't provide any proof of it's claims AboSalamah (talk) 12:36, 13 May 2025 (UTC)Reply
That source says:
The origins of Kabsa intertwine with Andalusian and Arabic influences. Some historians suggest its name derives from the Spanish dish paella, which itself traces back to the Arabic word baqiyah, meaning leftovers. This historical connection reveals how Kabsa, much like paella, evolved from a practical, resourceful dish into a celebrated culinary tradition.
Kabsa also draws inspiration from Yemeni mandi, a dish cooked with meat and rice in underground ovens. Over centuries, Kabsa adapted to regional preferences, incorporating local spices and cooking techniques to become the dish we know today.
Do you mind pointing towards the rumors that you're talking about? 𐩣𐩫𐩧𐩨 Abo Yemen (𓃵) 13:03, 13 May 2025 (UTC)Reply
The ones you just quoted, are all rumors and should not be put in the main text
sauditimes.org doesn't provide any books, or any sources really, only words AboSalamah (talk) 13:05, 13 May 2025 (UTC)Reply
There are literally no scholarly sources on Kabsa. None of the sources in use in this article cite a scholarly source. Not even the sources that claim a Saudi origin. Again, if you have an issue with the reliability of the sources used here, then we can go through WP:RSN 𐩣𐩫𐩧𐩨 Abo Yemen (𓃵) 13:09, 13 May 2025 (UTC)Reply

Kansas is not the same as machnoos

Y Kabsa is known to be Saudi Arabia dish. is made by adding tomato sauce on rice and tomatoes paste on chicken and the chicken is baked and served with tangy tomato onion and mixed or coriander leaves and garlic and lemon

On the other hand

Y. Machboos is a Kuwaiti dish made by boiling the chicken in a water with spices like cinnamon sticks and loomi and cardamom and other ingredients then the broth is added to the rice for the rice to cook.and the chicken then is deep fried . Machboos also served with hasho Criminalized onion with raisin and cardamom powder and cinnamon powder And the rice is infused after it cooks and the broth is absorbed by rice, A mix of zafaran and rose water is sprinkled on the rice And it's served with daqoos a garlicy tangy sauce made of garlic and tomato sauce

X. Remove the machboos from kabsa as they are not the same at all and both are not from the same country

I am afraid I don’t understand what you are asking. Could you please explain the issue and how you want to address it? (What part of the current text want to replace with which new text). I am not sure I understand correctly, but have you read the merge proposal at the top of this talk page? Tell me if I can help you.

PS: I moved the last paragraph of text up so it would be before your signature.
