first on-air date

Here is a source for the 1970 date (scroll to page C-101). Actually, September 17, 1970 to be exact. These Broadcasting Yearbooks are pretty accurate and considered a very reliable source in radio and television circles. - Neutralhomer • Talk • 00:44, 28 February 2012 (UTC)

Yes, the school could be wrong, as I said before. Could indeed be 1970 but as I also said elsewhere, broadcast industry yearbooks do carry the odd typo and an early one in that 1975 (or earlier) source, in the entry for a then-tiny college radio station, could've been brought forward through later editions, such as the one sourced in the infobox. I don't see a need to swap out dates in the infobox as such, but the sources do still clash. Gwen Gale (talk) 00:55, 28 February 2012 (UTC)

This 1973 broadcast yearbook lists: KUMM Not on air: target date unknown: 89.7 mhz; 12.6 kw. Ant 70 ft. University of Minn. This is a strong hint that the station only began broadcasting sometime the year before, 1972. Perhaps the licence was assigned in 1970 and there were hitches with getting things going for two years.
