Fair use rationale for Image:KLSR.GIF

[edit]

Image:KLSR.GIF is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Hello! I will be reviewing this article. Expect comments within a few hours or so — Crystal Drawers (talk) 14:24, 14 December 2025 (UTC)Reply

@Sammi Brie: The article has been reviewed fully now. Please let me know when you finish implementing the remaining suggestions (or let me know why not if you don’t use them!) Crystal Drawers (talk) 17:55, 16 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
@Crystal Drawers That should do it. This is just a bit of a funky one since the Eugene paper was not available from Newspapers.com until after this got written. Also, is there a spot check? Sammi Brie (she/her · t · c) 19:30, 16 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
Yes, I will do a spot check soon. I don’t have the time to do it right now, but I will try to start and finish it by tomorrow Crystal Drawers (talk) 21:30, 16 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
Great, thanks. Sammi Brie (she/her · t · c) 21:57, 16 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
Apologies for the lateness. From the spot check I've performed, the sources match the text, and the article seems good to go. Happy to pass Crystal Drawers (talk) 03:59, 22 December 2025 (UTC)Reply

Lead

[edit]

"The two stations share studios on Chad Drive in Eugene; KLSR's transmitter is located on South Ridge." — I feel the semi-colon isn't really needed, consider "The two stations share studios on Chad Drive in Eugene, while KLSR's transmitter is located on South Ridge." Crystal Drawers (talk) 19:16, 14 December 2025 (UTC)Reply

This is how it's usually done in the stations field for "two stations have studios at the same site, but we're only talking about one station's transmitter in this article". I don't think a "while" works for that. Sammi Brie (she/her · t · c) 23:30, 14 December 2025 (UTC)Reply

"KLSR began as a low-power station (officially K25AS) on June 12, 1987, with a format consisting primarily of music videos." — consider "KLSR, originally the low-power station K25AS, launched on June 12, 1987, with a format consisting primarily of music videos." Crystal Drawers (talk) 19:16, 14 December 2025 (UTC)Reply

I'll object here for a reason specific to this article. Low-power TV stations did not get the ability to get four-letter call signs until 1994. The press in Eugene called the station KLSR or "KLSR-TV" from before it launched, even though that was not its legal call sign ever on channel 25. This is why the sentence is written this way. The Eugene 34 and 25 articles are not written to facility history for reasons that this article should lay bare. Sammi Brie (she/her · t · c) 23:28, 14 December 2025 (UTC)Reply

"Though it lacked cable carriage until 1989, it had strong enough viewership within months of launching to obtain an affiliation with Fox." — I feel replacing "though" with "although" would help the sentence flow a little better. Also, maybe change "it had strong enough viewership within months of launching to obtain an affiliation with Fox." to "its strong viewership within months of launching allowed it to secure a Fox affiliation", as I feel the latter is much smoother in tone and wording Crystal Drawers (talk) 19:16, 14 December 2025 (UTC)Reply

This is a good change, and I've made it. Sammi Brie (she/her · t · c) 23:30, 14 December 2025 (UTC)Reply

History

[edit]

"Bearing the call sign K25AS but known as KLSR, the station" — add a comma between "K25AS" and "but"

"and initially programmed a format that on weekdays primarily consisted of music videos." — this seems a bit too wordy to me, consider "and initially programmed a format that, on weekdays, primarily featured music videos."

  • Went another route.

"During midday, it aired a live bingo program with prizes" — bit of a short sentence, I’d recommend adding it to the end of another or changing it to something like "During midday, it aired a live bingo program that gave out prizes to participants" for padding out

"a feat that earned it affiliation with the Fox network." — consider adding "an" between "it" and "affiliation"

"Even after affiliating with Fox" — this comes right after a similarly worded sentence that also uses the word "affiliate", could you change it up to avoid repetition?

"and beginning in 1990 full-time" — consider "and beginning full-time in 1990”

"Also in 1989, the station added a translator to serve Corvallis" — bit of a nitpick, but this comes right after it talks about 1990, consider adding the sentence before the previous (and removing "also", of course)

"and began broadcasting September 30, 1991" — consider adding an "on" between "broadcasting" and "September"

"On April 1, 1997, COBI moved KLSR to channel 34, which became KLSR-TV, and" — something about this reads a little oddly to me, maybe changing the commas for "which became KLSR-TV" sentence to —? (Example: "channel 34—which became KLSR-TV—and")

The last three paragraphs are all very short, please lump them together into one

  • Did the first two but the ownership change in 2022 merits a new paragraph.

Newscasts

[edit]

“KLSR entered into a deal with Eugene CBS affiliate KVAL-TV (channel 13) to produce a 10 p.m. newscast for at least six months." — Is this the same newscast as the previously mentioned one (Prime Time News)? If not, could this be specified?

  • We don't know if the title lasted when KVAL took over production.

"It lasted two years before KVAL opted to exit the partnership, citing low ratings." — You could probably use a semi-colon (;) between this and the previous sentence given how short they are and how they work together

Im not sure if “plus” is a professional word to use here, could it be replaced with "and"?

  • Changed.
