Figure problem

The figure shows a sleep spindle prior to a K-complex where as the situation as stated in the text is that the K-complex usually precedes a spindle. Some readers might find this confusing. There is a need for someone to cut and paste and rejoin up its two halves to put the K-complex first.--LittleHow (talk) 11:24, 24 May 2009 (UTC)Reply




The fifth and sixth sentences of the section on neurophysiology [“Both K-complex and delta wave activity in stage 2 sleep create slow wave (0.8 Hz) oscillation and delta (1.6-4.0 Hz). Homeostasis of synapses

I could not find this conclusion in the study provided, nor does this sound reasonable to ascertain in the context of other information provided in this article (Wikipedia articles shouldn't offer novel analysis, but I thought I'd state this regardless). Additionally:

  • REM sleep suppression by antidepressants does not affect the frequency and density of K-complexes in rats (McCarthy et al., 2009).
  • In humans, REM sleep suppression by antidepressants with different mechanisms of action (SSRIs and TCAs) does not alter the regulation of K-complexes (Kokkinos et al., 2011).
