Apple

iCal day is a holiday celebrated by the Apple fan community. I think we should add it. iCal --Jbklego 01:12, 31 October 2006 (UTC) Seconded. The icon for the iCal application is set by default to July 17.

LDS Church

Does anyone know of a reference for this entry? "1831 - Mormonism founder Joseph Smith, Jr. receives a revelation in Jackson County, Missouri on plural marriage that introduces polygamy in Mormonism." I did not find a reference in the 'Joseph Smith, Jr. and polygamy' page or the book "The Joseph Smith Revelations Text and Commentary" by H. Michael Marquartdt or the Doctrine and Covenants. The documents state that Joseph Smith did receive a revelation on July 20th 1831 in Jackson County but it had nothing to do with plural marriage. What should we do? I think that we should remove it. Malaysia Airline Crash

WP:NDOY states that for airline crashes to be notable enough for inclusion, they must result in policy change or result in the death of a major political figure or celebrity. This crash does not meet that standard. However, if we get multiple reliable sources saying this airplane was actually shot down (not just alleged by others, by anonymous sources, or other speculation), then it would certainly be notable enough for inclusion on the list. Just to add, NY Times, NBC, BBC, CNN, Time, NPR all say "crashes" in headline and mentions allegations of being shot down. Only Fox News mentions "shot down" in headline. EvergreenFir (talk) Please {{re}} 20:23, 17 July 2014 (UTC)

Disneyland

The following discussion was moved here from User talk:Toddst1 by Toddst1 because this is where the discussion really belongs.

Please explain why you think that the grand opening of Disneyland in California is not an event worthy of recognition on the July 17 page. The opening of Disneyland had a profound impact on the way theme parks in the United States were built and operated, and it has affected hundreds of millions of people. If we mark foundations of corporations (see Intel on the July 18th page) then the "foundation" of Disneyland is surely of the same merit. JefferyClark (talk) 07:45, 1 September 2025 (UTC)

1. You read my edit summary explaining "The opening fails WP:EVENTDOY. The place is highly notable but the event fails."
2. You're a responsible editor and have read and understood the rationale I cited, WP:EVENTDOY.
3. You understand WP:OSE is an argument to be avoided when discussing deletion of content.
