I need to create a real page because my name right now redirects to Digital waveguide synthesis (a page I did not write, but just today I corrected some misinformation on it). When I have a real page I will ask to have a disambiguation page inserted instead of going to the highly limited Digital waveguide synthesis page.

Incorrect Bilbao citation

This is an _error note_.  The sentence about visiting appointments and Matti Karjalainen gives the citation [8] as doi:10.1162/comj_a_00516 pointing to "Physical Modeling, Algorithms and Sound Synthesis: The Work of Julius O. Smith III".  THIS IS AN ERROR. The title of that DOI is instead "Physical Modeling, Algorithms, and Sound Synthesis: The NESS Project".  Also, while that document extensively cites my work in this area, it does not mention my visiting appointments, as far as I can see. I could easily make this really solid, but I've learned that there is no way I can make it through your LLM gates and whatever other barriers you've erected. (Disclosure: I'm the subject of this article, which was created to correct misinformation on Wikipedia, and this error note is in the same spirit. Because Wikipedia makes it _so far impossible_ for me to fix things here (everything I've attempted so far has been reverted with little or no consideration for its merits), I will be sure to only attempt to correct the MOST MAJOR ERRORS.  Polish is impossible here, at least for me, despite my half century of writing experience, including four books and over 300 publications.  If this error correction makes it through, I _might_ attempt another.) Yes, that was an error in my first draft, which was written as a sparse starting point by whatever the best LLM was at the time (June 2025 I think). I planned to iteratively proofread and refine as I've done throughout my 50+ years of publishing, but learned very quickly that I would not be allowed to do that. My prompt asked for a fact-based summary that stuck close to the references to eliminate the possibility of hallucinations, and I was going to build on that. After having my first rewrite rejected wholesale, I would have left it alone in its original spare form, but then I noticed that bizarre citation error that really should be corrected, so if we can get that done, I'm ok with leaving it alone. I just learned from Fable 5.1 that flagging the error in Talk is not enough, and I will next follow its instructions on how to submit a proper Edit request. Edit request: correct three faulty citations

I am the subject of this article (see the connected-contributor notice above). Each item below corrects an error I introduced when I created the draft. None adds new claims.

1. Under "Academic career", in the paragraph beginning "He has held visiting appointments", remove the citation to Bilbao, Computer Music Journal, vol. 43, no. 2-3, doi:10.1162/comj_a_00516. The title given there ("...The Work of Julius O. Smith III") does not exist. That DOI is "Physical Modeling, Algorithms, and Sound Synthesis: The NESS Project" (Bilbao et al., pp. 15-30), which does not support the sentence. If the sentence then has to go for lack of a source, I have no objection.

2. In the citation named "wired94" (Wired, "Wave of the Future", https://www.wired.com/1994/03/waveguides/), change the author from "Ressner, Jeff" to "Johnstone, Bob" and the date to 1 March 1994. The article exists and describes the work cited, but the author given is wrong.

3. Under "Honors and recognition", please remove the last bullet ("Ranked among the world's top electronics and signal-processing researchers by Guide2Research (2020)"). The link is apparently dead now (nice while it lasted).

4. Under "Educational contributions", please remove the citation to Roads, The Computer Music Tutorial (1996). While this book extensively cites my early work that became the basis for my books, as typically happens in academia, I've been told that it comes off as trying to support the existence of textbooks published in 2007-2011 (and such support is not needed since the books have been in print all this time). Please also change "four open-access textbooks that are widely used in graduate-level audio DSP courses" to "four open-access textbooks", since "widely used" is unsourced (but I have access to HTML logs showing thousands of page-hits per day if anyone wants to see that).

5. In the infobox, please delete the two hidden HTML comments (the one about adding a portrait filename and the one about the birth year). They are accidentally included drafting notes. JOSmithIIIGM (talk) 13:44, 3 September 2026 (UTC)
