GAN push
[edit]Hi! I'm working on making up a Good Topic for all of the World Snooker Champions, and also those for whom were World number one. This article to me looks pretty good, just needs a bit of a touch up - anyone have any further suggestions what might need to be required before this is nomninated? Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 14:30, 10 May 2023 (UTC)
- Rodney Baggins do you fancy doing a nom with me on this article? Any suggestions as to what might be required? Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 19:04, 2 January 2026 (UTC)
- @Lee Vilenski: Ooh sorry, I missed this one
however, the brilliant Canary757 has taken up the reins and asked for my view before GAN. I've agreed to co-nom pending a few possible improvements, which I'll list here shortly... Rodney Baggins .talk.
- @Lee Vilenski: Ooh sorry, I missed this one
- My feedback/suggestions:
- The subsections are a bit too long in my view! E.g. 2011–2014 and 2018–2022 each have 10 paragraphs, which might not appeal to the casual reader. Maybe change the split so we have shorter subsections, e.g. 2011–2013, 2014–2017, 2017–2020, 2020–2023, 2023–2026, or something like that. I agree that one subsection per season is a bit much for established players.
Done I agree this looks better

- The early life section could do with being completely separate from his professional career. Suggest level 2 heading "Early life and amateur career", ending with "and reached the World Under-21 Championship semi-finals." then another level 2 heading "Professional career", followed immediately by level 3 heading "2005–2011" starting with "Trump turned professional in 2005."

- Ref.161 is Stage One of the 2021 championship league (not 2020), but the 2020 equivalent is a blank page so provides no verification. I was aware, and then forgot all about this so good spot.'
- Eurosport sources have changed to TNT so should be cited as such, with equivalent updated archives if available (probably won't be). I feel like I've been told in the past that the reference details should reflect how they were on the original access-date. At that time these sources had nothing to do with TNT Sports.
- It might be worth adding in a few more archives, e.g. Guardian refs 5, 9, 15, 26, 238. Not essential for GA unless the reviewer picks up on it. I could maybe add a few in passing! Added lots and I see you have too which is great.

Updated above/ thanks. Canary757 (talk) 13:46, 1 April 2026 (UTC)
- Hi there, Canary757. Hope you are doing well. I plan on reading the article and making suggestions if I find anything. However, after a quick scan, I saw that there are too many "then"s (up to 39) in the Life and career section, at some point three in the same paragraph. Some of them can be kept, but most are really not necessary, given that it's obvious that the text follows a chronological order. Thanks for your work on the article. Kind regards, Alavense (talk) 14:42, 1 April 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks @Alavense, I look forward to reading any suggestions you may have. Canary757 (talk) 05:41, 2 April 2026 (UTC)

- Hi, are we good to go @Rodney Baggins? Thanks for all your help. Do you think the Haircut 100 name is due for inclusion, it's not in the article at the moment? Canary757 (talk) 13:16, 10 April 2026 (UTC)
- Thank you Alavense. I'll take a look. Canary757 (talk) 07:20, 2 April 2026 (UTC)

- Yes, I think it's worthy of GAN now. I had planned to do more copyediting but haven't had time. I guess it takes several months for the review to happen, so plenty of time for further prose improvements in the meantime. We obviously have to stick with The Ace in the Pack in the infobox – maybe could mention in passing (somewhere in the main body) that he was once labelled Haircut 100 if there are any reliable sources to back that up.
- The Eurosport/TNT sources are a complete PITA IMHO. I'm happy to leave them alone for now, but the reviewer might pick up on it. Personally, I prefer to update to the TNT version (as that's what you get when you click on the link) and keep the Eurosport archive for posterity. The access date can be updated as well, following verification that the new article still supports the claim. But we can leave it alone, as I'm probably just being a bit fussy! Cheerio for now, Rodney Baggins .talk. 10:55, 12 April 2026 (UTC)
Juddernaut is also a nickname for him
[edit]That's it really, dunno how to add or what to cite. HelpMeChoose55 (talk) 00:48, 13 February 2024 (UTC)
- The nicknames are displayed via a template (Template:Infobox snooker player/nicknames). I just added the Juddernaut nickname with a few references. AmethystZhou (talk) 00:59, 13 February 2024 (UTC)

- Hi @BennyOnTheLoose. I believe everything has been actioned bar the name sorting. Let me know what you think. Thanks. Canary757 (talk) 15:06, 17 June 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks, Canary757. You and Rodney Baggins have done a great job on the article. I'm satisfied that it meets the GA criteria. Regards, BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 23:28, 17 June 2026 (UTC)
From an initial read-through, the article seems to be in good shape, and it reads well. I've made a few small edits to the article in the past but I'm certainly not a significant contributor. BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 19:52, 12 June 2026 (UTC)
I'm willing to discuss any of the points below, don't take them as a list of absolute requirements. I'll mark "optional" where they definitely are optional. BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 22:32, 12 June 2026 (UTC)
- Hi. Thanks very much for reviewing. Canary757 (talk) 13:58, 13 June 2026 (UTC)
Copyvio check
- I reviewed the eight matches over 10% identified by Earwig's copyvio detector. No issues - matches were attributed quotes, tournament names, text acceptable per WP:LIMITED, etc.
No edit-warring. Some minor IP vandalism recently, which was sorted.
Images
- No licence issues, relevant, positioning and captions are fine.
Early life and amateur career
Done
- Spot check on "Judd Trump was born on 20 August 1989" - no issues
- Spot check on "in Whitchurch, Bristol." - no issues
- Spot check on "He was introduced to snooker by his father, a long-distance lorry driver" - the Times of Malta ref doesn't verify "introduced to snooker by his father" so I suggest moving this ref next to the Aida Edemarium one at the end of the sentence.
- Spot check on "the youngest-ever player to score a competitive maximum break of 147, achieving the feat aged 14 years 208 days" - no issues
2005–2010
Done
- Spot check on "Trump was awarded a wild card place on the professional snooker tour for the 2005–06 season" - no issues
- Spot check on "He played Shaun Murphy in the first round but lost 6–10 having led 6–5" - no issues
- "At the Grand Prix" - as this is the season after the one last mentioned maybe add the year ""2008 Grand Prix", or the season. Another option would be "
In the 2007–08 season,Trump reached the second round of the 2008 Welsh Open," - Optional: move "Trump failed to reach the main stage of the 2009 World Championship, losing 8–10 to Stephen Lee in the final qualifying round,[19] but he ended the season in the top 32 of the world rankings for the first time." to the end of the previous para.
- Spot check on "In August that year, he triumphed at the Paul Hunter Classic in Germany, defeating Anthony Hamilton 4–3 in the final" - no issues, but perhaps a little more could be added as it seems to be his first professional title?
2011–2014
Done
- Spot check on "to reach his first ranking event final, in which he triumphed over Mark Selby 10–8 to win his first televised title" - no issues but phrasing seems slightly off, consider whether it can be reworked.
- "winning a PTC event" probably means little to most general readers, maybe spell it out?
- "He later topped the PTC Order of Merit, qualifying him for the 2012 Finals," - ref does not state "qualifying him for the 2012 Finals" explicitly. Might be better to say "2012 PTC Finals".
- Spot check on "Six-time winner of the event Steve Davis said that Trump's performances during the championship had shown that he was "spearheading his generation" of snooker players" - no issues. (Supported by the archived version but not the live page)
- "and it was the Australian who triumphed 6–3" - "the Australian" varies the text but it hasn't been mentioned that Robertson is Australian. Not hard to deduce that he is, I suppose, but I think in general we tend to avoid referring to players only in terms of their nation. What do you think about this phrase here?
- Optional: "stating that that he had been suffering from the effects of food poisoning." - could be phrased as just that he was, not that he stated he was, given the title of the source.
- Spot check on "Trump's first tournament of the 2012–13 season was the Wuxi Classic" - no issues.
- Spot check on "defeating Ebdon 9–1 in the semi-finals to become snooker's tenth world number one." - no issues
- Spot check on "Trump met Higgins in back-to-back Players Tour Championship finals" - the sources used for these don't verify that they were "back-to-back". Maybe add his main or season snooker org page as a ref for this.
- Spot check on "His defeat was compounded by the loss of his position at the top of the world rankings" - I don't see Trump mentioned in either the live or archived versions of Hafez, Shamoon (10 December 2012). "UK Snooker Championship 2012: Mark Selby beats Shaun Murphy". "compounded by" sounds slightly unencyclopedic to me but might be OK depending on the source.
- "He exited early at both the Masters and the German Masters" - I don't think a list of results is enough to support "exited early", is it? Turns out that "Trump Battles Past 'Slow' Dale". World Snooker. 13 February 2013. has " suffered early exits at the UK Championship, Masters and German Masters" so that could be added
- Spot check on "regained the world number one ranking at the Welsh Open" - not supported by archived version of the source, which has "World number two Trump". Live page unavailable.
- Spot check on "relinquishing the world number one ranking to Mark Selby" - no issues
- Spot check on "He later said that Robertson's achievement meant nothing to him and that making a maximum break of 147 was more special." - no issues
2014–2017
Done
- Spot check on "Afterwards, O'Sullivan described the match as the hardest of his career." - no issues, except I am not sure whether "hardest" should be in quotation marks.
- Optional: "fell 1–5 behind" and " fell 4–7 behind" - the only two uses of this formulation in the article are pretty close together. Consider amending one of them.
- Spot check on "he believed that his level of play was good enough to secure a first world title" - no issues (archived source)
- "ended with a quarter-finals defeat by Maguire" - seems to me like it should be "quarter-final defeat" but I might be mistaken.
- Optional: "He reached the final of the Shanghai Masters and trailed Kyren Wilson 9–7 before Trump sent the match into a deciding frame which Wilson won." - feels like this might be more elegantly stated, but unhelpfully I don't have a concrete suggestion.
- Optional: "and put a few hundred pounds behind the local bar" feels slightly informal and I'm not sure how internationally it would be understood.
- "Trump edged past Murphy 6–5" - I suggest rewording to specify that the match was decided on the final black. ("edged through" appears shortly afterwards in the article)
- "He suffered a 2–6 defeat" - I was concerned about "suffered" but TIL that the word is used in an example to follow in MOS:SNOOKER.
- Spot check on ""I honestly believe I can play to a standard which is very rare nowadays," and that he was "the best" in the world" - no issues
2017–2020
Done
- "For the 2018–19 season, Trump employed his younger brother Jack (also a former English Under-15 snooker champion)[8] to travel with him and work with him in practice.[130] " - move ref 8 next to ref 130 as 8 doesn't support all of the preceding text.
- Spot check on "Winning the world title also made Trump the 11th player to complete snooker's Triple Crown." - no issues
- Spot check on "Trump became the first player to win over £1 million in prize money during a single season and was named as the World Snooker Tour (WST) Player of the Year." - no issues
- Spot check on " he became the first player to win six ranking titles in a single season," - no issues
2020–2023
Done
- Spot check on "In January, Trump was forced to withdraw from the 2021 Masters after testing positive for COVID-19" - no issues
- Spot check on "inducted into the WST Hall of Fame" - no issues
2023–2026
Done
- "He won over Zhang Anda" - I think "won over" has a different sense to "won against"
- Spot check on "He won over Zhang Anda 9–7 to capture the English Open for a second time," - source doesn't specify it was a second time
- Optional - add that Trump was 3-7 down against Zhang then won the next six frames
- Optional "the third player, after Hendry and Williams, to win consecutive events held in consecutive weeks in different countries" - I'm not sure this is very interesting to a general a reader. Consider omitting.
- Spot check on "Trump made the 1,000th century break of his career in his British Open quarter-final defeat against Allen, becoming the third player to achieve the feat following O'Sullivan and Higgins" - no issues
Maximum and century breaks
Done
- Optional - "Trump has completed nine maximum breaks," - add where he is on the all time list, for some context
- Maybe call out the 100 century breaks stats here? possible source (Even though he said "Although it's a brilliant achievement, 100 centuries doesn't mean anything to me." when Robertson did it)
Playing style
- Spot check on ""naughty snooker"; the phrase was picked up by the press, who began using it in relation to Trump" - no issues
Personal life
- Spot check on "Trump was once romantically linked to United Arab Emirates equestrian Khadijah Misr, who appeared with him after he won the 2017 Players Championship" - no issues
- Spot check on "That year, he was reported to be in a relationship with Maisy Ma, a figure skater and TV personality from Hong Kong" - no issues
Performance and rankings timeline
- I did five spot checks. No issues.
Career finals
- I spot-checked five - no issues
- Tables sort by first name rather than surname, but I don't think that's a blocker to GA status. (See the tables at Ray Reardon for one way to address this, if you want to)
Infobox and lead
Done
- "He is in fourth place on the list of all-time ranking event winners" - doesn't seem to be included in the body; uncited
- "He has won five Triple Crown events." - uncited, but can be inferred so OK
- Consider adding something brief around playing style to the lead.
General
- There are some duplicate links in the Maximum and century breaks section, but I think these serve readers and can be retained.
- What's the rationale behind the divisions 2005–2010, 2011–2014, 2014–2017, 2017–2020 and 2023–2026? (No biggie, articles like Terry Griffiths have got to FA with similar sections) Suggested by RB as 4-year sections had too many paragraphs.
- I couldn't see why certain tournaments are included in the text e.g. 2013 Wuxi Classic seems rather irrelevant to his career. However, I spot checked for ten ranking finals and they were all mentioned in the body, so pursuing this further would be a matter for an FAC rather than a GA review.
