Marcoux's ordination
[edit]The current entry reads: "After being ordained by Roupe on 12 January 1813, Marcoux succeeded him at St. Regis." Jean-Baptiste Roupe was a priest, and I'm fairly sure it takes a bishop to ordain a priest. Roupe could not have ordained Marcoux. John Gilmary Shea, a 19th-century American Catholic historian, writes that Marcoux was ordained by Bishop Joseph-Octave Plessis at Québec on 12 June 1813: see John Gilmary Shea, Caughnawaga and the Rev. Marcoux at Kanesatake?
[edit]The current entry reads: "For the remaining forty-two years of his life, Marcoux worked to evangelize the Iroquois, first at St. Regis, later at other missions at Kahnawake (Sault-St-Louis) and Lac des Deux Montagnes." This latter mission, also known as Kanesatake, was not one to which Joseph Marcoux ever seems to have been appointed as missionary. His biography in Allaire's Dictionnaire biographique du clergé canadien-français (1910) does not mention his working at Kanesatake, nor does John Gilmary Shea's Caughnawaga and the Rev. Joseph Marcoux, Its Late Missionary (S.l.: s.n., 18--?) https://archive.org/details/cihm_47540/page/n7/mode/1up.
