The article's lead says he had an OBE, and the categories state he had an MBE. Neither of these claims is sourced. They both appear to be wrong, as this obituary regrets that he never received any decoration: no knighthood and "not even an MBE". Aridd (talk) 19:49, 22 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Aridd: The OBE is from the 20th Century Fiji: People who Shaped this Nation book, which you can see here (p41 is about Bayly, as you can see here; I still have the scan of that page). However, it may well be incorrect, as I cannot find any listing of him in the London Gazette. Number5722:03, 22 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Number 57: thanks! This means we have sources that contradict each other... Firth's book may indeed be incorrect, as the obituary article in the PIM specifically emphasises that it's regrettable Bayly was never granted a formal distinction, "not even an MBE". And if the London Gazette doesn't list him... Perhaps we should simply mention the contradiction in the article? Aridd (talk) 09:15, 23 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Aridd: To be honest, if it's not listed in the London Gazette, then it didn't happen, so I would potentially err on the side of excluding it completely for now. Cheers, Number5709:24, 23 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
