Discussion on External Links

This is the designated section in case the user Dream_Focus reverts my edit. I suspect the links I removed violate WP:ELNO's #5, #11, #16, and #19, respectfully. Ging287 (talk) 22:50, 19 March 2014 (UTC)

As I explained on your talk page, "you erased a link to the official website of that park, as well as links to government websites showing information about it." You have restored three of the four valid external links, and I have added back in the other valid one after fixing it so it points to the right article.

• http://johnmuirway.org/ is the official website. You need to link to it obviously.
• East Lothian Council: The John Muir Way and North Sea Trail was a broken link, one easily searched for and fixed. It is the website of the local government and list information about it.
• http://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/john-muir-way.shtml is a government website, giving more information about the trail, and how to access it, that useful information to anyone wanting to know how to get there.
• http://www.snh.gov.uk/enjoying-the-outdoors/homecoming-scotland-2014/celebrate-john-muir/ contains a lot of information about the guy and the park.

I hadn't gone through all the links before, I just noticed you removing the official website and the rest, so reverted that bad edit. Please remember to go through external links to see what they are, before you just erase an entire section. Dream Focus 03:47, 20 March 2014 (UTC)

Distance differences

See this edit: : even by the involved runner AlbaJon the distance is disputed. (I changed the conversion because it made an error; in using {{convert}}). Now there still remains a distance issue in the article: 200 km and 215 km are used. I also would like to read if the definition is in miles or in km. -DePiep (talk) 18:01, 26 April 2014 (UTC)

Error of fact

The page currently states "and Helensburgh, from where he left Scotland for the United States.[3]". This is wrong. The Muirs left Dunbar by train for Glasgow, embarked on the sailing vessel Warren at the Broomielaw, and their last port in Scotland was a brief stop in Greenock. Error of fact 2

I don't think it is accurate to say John Muir "founded" the National Park Service in the USA. In fact he died 2 years before it's formation, and never was in government. He did co-found the Sierra Club and was it's first president. Through the club and his own private advocacy he advocated for the creation of National Parks and National Monuments. He is the "spiritual" leader of the National Parks and conservation movement. But never created a park or service himself. ~2026-18681-19 (talk) 14:27, 25 March 2026 (UTC)
