Tom A. Peddie
[edit]It seems very likely that John Moat's stepfather was Tom Anderson Peddie DSO (1893-1958), also in the Green Howards. He married in 1927 Beryl Boxer (of Miles and Beryl Smeeton). They were divorced, by c.1937 when she changed her name back to Beryl Alice Boxer by deed poll. She married Miles Smeeton in 1938.
Peddie had an entry in Who's Who 1943:
- Peddie, Lt.-Col. Tom Anderson, D.S.O. 1917; late Green Howards and Lincoln Regt.; er. surv. s. of Henry Peddie MB, Woodhall Spa, Lincolnshire; m. 1927., Beryl Alice, o.d. of late Lt.-Col. Hugh Boxer D.S.O. Served European War, 1914-17 (wounded, dispatches, D.S.O.) retired pay 1941. Club: Naval and Military.

This Art UK page has a clear reference: "presented by John Moatt and Sally Hosking in memory of Major J. H. F. Moatt, killed in action in Burma 1944, from his wife Norrie and her second husband, Lieutenant Colonel T. A. Peddie, DSO, 1954." Charles Matthews (talk) 10:46, 22 July 2025 (UTC)
Rachel Galletti
[edit]There is an identification of Rachel on this page about Adelaide Robina Cochrane (1859-1947). While this cannot be used directly in Wikipedia, there is a good fit of Rachel with Rachel Cochrane Morgans, Adelaide's daughter. She was an heiress from 1932:. Her father the Rev. Samuel Morgans, educated at Lampeter College, had livings at Blackheath, Birmingham and Clavedon, and died in 1910.
Adelaide's marriages check out in Armorial Families (1910) under Cochrane. Charles Matthews (talk) 09:14, 4 August 2025 (UTC)
Additional evidence is strong:
- A Commonwealth War Graves Commission online file says "2104151,GALLETTI,ARTHUR,A,35,Military Cross,29/04/1943,,Major,Royal Artillery,,"Offr. Cdg. 105 Bty., 31 Regt.",,United Kingdom,'37068',Tunisia,ENFIDAVILLE WAR CEMETERY,VII. C. 18.,"Son of Arthur and Clara Galletti; husband of Rachel Cochrane Galletti, of Farnham, Surrey.""
- Freebmd says Rachel Cochrane Galletti died in 1978, death registered in Surrey.{{Cite web|url=https://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/information.pl?cite=WPritOUdkUS8%2FwjoI0BDCg&scan=1|title=Index entry|accessdate=4 August 2025|work=FreeBMD|publisher=ONS}}
(While a forum entry at also says Arthur was "Son of Arthur and Clara Galletti; husband of Rachel Cochrane Galletti, of Farnham, Surrey", thid may derive from the CWGC source.)
Freebmd has the birth of Rachel Cochrane Morgans in 1902.{{Cite web|url=https://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/information.pl?cite=rktC1%2FkmZC5Mi8J1m8F9tg&scan=1|title=Index entry|accessdate=4 August 2025|work=FreeBMD|publisher=ONS}} The birth was registered at Upton on Severn.
The given name pair "Rachel Cochrane" is uncommon. I think the above is convincing. Charles Matthews (talk) 11:35, 4 August 2025 (UTC)
