Elementary Education Act 1870
[edit]I have removed which introduced universal free education from after Elementary Education Act 1870 as it conflicts with the statements in the article Elementary Education Act 1870. can anyone confirm whether education was free? In addition, Elementary Education Act 1870 states that education was only for boys. Oosoom 14:25, 4 June 2006 (UTC)
- Clarifying my statements above, education was not made free by this Act, although I was wrong about it being only for boys. Education became compulsory for boys and girls until their thirteenth birthday unless they had been certified as reaching a certain level of education. Oosoom Talk to me 09:41, 14 February 2007 (UTC)
