I am a representative of Jingan Young and therefore have a conflict of interest in editing this article directly. I would like to request several factual updates to reflect her current work and to improve the article’s sourcing and structure.
I would be grateful if an uninvolved editor could review the following proposed changes.
‘’‘Infobox’’’
Please change the occupation from:
‘‘Dramatist’’
to:
‘‘Screenwriter, playwright, author’’
I would also suggest adding ‘‘Red Eye’’ and ‘‘Soho on Screen’’ under notable works.
‘’‘Proposed replacement lead’’’
‘’‘Jingan Young’’’ is a Hong Kong-born British screenwriter, playwright and author. She is known for her work on the ITV thriller ‘‘Red Eye’’, writing episodes across both series.
Young is also the author of ‘‘Soho on Screen: Cinematic Spaces of Bohemia and Cosmopolitanism, 1948–1963’’ and editor of ‘‘Foreign Goods: A Selection of Writing by British East Asian Artists’’. She has contributed writing on film and culture to ‘‘The Guardian’’.
‘’‘Screenwriting’’’
I would suggest restructuring the career section so that Young’s screenwriting work appears first.
Young wrote episode four of the first series of ITV thriller ‘‘Red Eye’’ and returned for the second series, co-writing episode three with series creator Peter A. Dowling. ‘‘Red Eye’’ became one of ITV’s top ten dramas of 2024, attracting audiences in excess of eight million viewers and 29.3 million streams on ITVX."ITV Recommissions Propulsive Thriller Red Eye For A Second Series After Ratings Soar To Over 8 Million Viewers". ITV Press Centre. 11 September 2024. Retrieved 13 September 2026.
Young is also one of the writers of the BBC legal drama ‘‘Counsels’’."Cast confirmed for original new BBC drama Counsels as filming gets underway". Screen Scotland. Retrieved 13 September 2026.
Young’s debut feature film, ‘‘Number 2 Daughter’’, is in development with the British Film Institute and Bona Dea Films."Hot Shots 2024: Jingan Young". Broadcast. 27 June 2024. Retrieved 13 September 2026.
‘’‘Theatre and publishing’’’
Young wrote ‘‘FILTH (Failed in London, Try Hong Kong)’’, the first English-language play commissioned by the Hong Kong Arts Festival. The play premiered at the festival in 2014.Lam, Lana; Lee, Danny (22 December 2013). "Playwright pens tale of Hong Kong and its expat 'filth'". South China Morning Post. Retrieved 13 September 2026.
Young later edited ‘‘Foreign Goods: A Selection of Writing by British East Asian Artists’’, a collection of plays, short plays and monologues by British East Asian writers. The anthology was published by Oberon Books in 2018 and includes a foreword by David Henry Hwang and Young."Foreign Goods: A Selection of Writing by British East Asian Artists". Bloomsbury. Retrieved 13 September 2026.
Young is also the author of ‘‘Soho on Screen: Cinematic Spaces of Bohemia and Cosmopolitanism, 1948–1963’’, published by Berghahn Books in 2022. The book developed from her doctoral research and includes a foreword by ‘‘The Guardian’’ film critic Peter Bradshaw."Soho on Screen: Cinematic Spaces of Bohemia and Cosmopolitanism, 1948–1963". Berghahn Books. Retrieved 13 September 2026.
‘’‘Education and academic work’’’
Young holds a BA (Hons) in English with Film Studies from King’s College London and a Master of Studies in Creative Writing from the University of Oxford.
She completed a PhD in Film Studies at King’s College London in 2020. Her doctoral thesis, ‘‘Soho on Screen: London, Bohemia and Cosmopolitanism in British Cinema, 1948–1963’’, examined representations of Soho in post-war British cinema."Soho on screen: London, Bohemia and cosmopolitanism in British cinema, 1948–1963". King’s College London. Retrieved 13 September 2026.
Young has also taught at university level. She was previously a Lecturer in Screenwriting at Birkbeck, University of London, and has held teaching roles at King’s College London.
‘’‘Journalism’’’
Young has written on film, culture and representation for ‘‘The Guardian’’."Jingan Young". The Guardian. Retrieved 13 September 2026.
‘’‘Recognition’’’
In 2024, Young was named one of ‘‘Broadcast’’ magazine’s Hot Shots in its Writers & Script Editors category."Hot Shots 2024: Jingan Young". Broadcast. 27 June 2024. Retrieved 13 September 2026.
‘’‘Selected television credits’’’
- ‘‘Red Eye’’
- ‘‘Counsels’’
- ‘‘Biff & Chip’’
‘’‘Personal life’’’
Young is the daughter of John Dragon Young, a scholar of Chinese history and former Hong Kong politician."John Dragon Young". Wikipedia. Retrieved 13 September 2026.
She has two children.
‘’‘Other suggested changes’’’
I would also suggest:
- moving the screenwriting section before the academic and publishing material;
- retaining Young’s theatre work, books, academic work and journalism;
- removing representation details;
- simplifying personal information where appropriate;
- updating incomplete or outdated citations.
Thank you for reviewing this request. ~2026-49427-30 (talk) 11:28, 13 September 2026 (UTC)
