Virginian families

[edit]

Many Shifflet, Shiflett, Shiplett and Shipplet families in western Virginia, USA, believe they are descended from the Chifflet family.

Are there any documents that can be cited ? In recent years a few Chifflet have been visible on the internet.

@Grshiplett: Hi Robert, if you have reliable sources that evidence this connection, you may want to list them at Talk:Chifflet. —Ringbang (talk) 14:35, 7 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

Holy Roman Empire or France

[edit]

Chifflet lived in the Duchy of Burgundy, which at the time was part of the Holy Roman Empire. Yes, it would become part of France later, but we should not retroactively place people in France who were not within the limits of France at the time.John Pack Lambert (talk) 16:27, 17 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

surprises

[edit]
One of the illustrations supports Chifflet's contention that the Frankish king Clovis I used three toads rather than the fleur-de-lys as his royal insignia, which should not be surprising.
