Change the title

Japanification 日本化 is an inaccurate title. 哈日族 refers to Japanophiles, mainly Taiwanese, who have a good understanding of Japan. Many of them have travel experience. The Lost decade is not relevant here. Why not use Hārìzú? --Shinkansen Fan (talk) 13:16, 19 October 2011 (UTC)

Page describes wrong subject

In reliable sources, "Japanification" almost always refers to a country's economy becoming more like Japan's, which has been characterized by low/negative inflation and low economic growth. Just do a simple Google search, and you will get results like:

• Japanification: investors fear malaise is spreading globally, Financial Times: "Japanification, or Japanisation, is the term economists use to describe the country’s nearly 30-year battle against deflation and anaemic growth."
• What is Japanification?, The Week: "The term is used as shorthand for the economic problems that crippled Japan around the turn of the millennium."
• Worry Over the ‘Japanification’ of the U.S. Economy Is Overblown, Economists Say, Barron's: "Economists have been warning for years that the U.S. economy could start to look like Japan’s, using the term “Japanification” to describe that change."
• Why Japanification and Secular Stagnation Are Bad, Bad News, Bloomberg News: "It’s a term used by economists to describe a state of chronically anemic economic growth and feeble inflation or even deflation similar to the conditions faced by Japan since a giant real-estate bubble popped in the early 1990s."
• Here’s what a ‘Japanification’ of the U.S. would look like, Market Watch: "In financial markets, being like Japan isn’t a good thing — representing having few investment opportunities and nonexistent inflation."

By contrast, not a single result will yield anything resembling "the process of becoming or wishing to become a member of Japanese society", as this page defines it. In fact, not a single references listed on this page describes Japanification as anything like the definition provided! Only one reference (a journal on children's literature) even uses the term "Japanification", and it uses it to describe how American children's literature is becoming more Japanese in style. It is quite clear that this page should instead describe Japanification in the economic sense, as this is how it is used in reliable sources (furthermore, the usage to describe children's literature should be excluded for being WP:Undue). I renamed the article with a disambiguator. I hope that somebody can write an article for "Japanification (economic)" now Slauhale (talk) 14:32, 21 September 2023 (UTC)

I agree with this: 'Japanification' as presented in the current article state is a confusion of Japanophile and Japanization with a dash of naive acculturation. The article is approaching original research, trying to compile Japanese pop culture trends as proof of 'japanification'. I think the article should be merged with Japanophile, elements of Japanization removed, and the redirect usurped for the topic of economic Japanification.
