COI tag (May 2026)

Article has been edited by someone claiming to be the subject. Matt Deres (talk) 13:18, 9 May 2026 (UTC)

Maybe I was too harsh to revert the edit you're pointing our for COI? As I understand guidelines we're not allowed to edit an article about ourselves or where we may have a conflict of interest. Please help with some advice on how to deal with this particular situation where the editor honestly declared being the subject of the article. LumenArchivorum (talk) 15:03, 9 May 2026 (UTC)

Editing an article about yourself is discouraged, but allowed, per WP:AUTO, which is why I didn't revert her myself. Also, what she removed (and you restored) was not particularly critical. I think it belongs in the article, but it wasn't a hill I wanted to fight on. Per the edit summary, it seems like she removed it due to being dated (not really a reason to remove) and in fact she toned down some slight fluffiness (which is). So, in short, I was okay with both the initial edit and your revert. Matt Deres (talk) 16:47, 9 May 2026 (UTC)

Very interesting. If I had taken the precaution to read the article talk page carefully before reverting I may have acted differently. I am pretty new at using the dashboard, it's a very interesting feature with great guidance but these cases may require more experience. I cast no shadow of doubt on the intentions of you of Jane Stapleton, on the contrary I applaud the honesty and engagement and thank you for an chance to learn.
