Stourhead inscription

There are a number of quite noticeable and clearly intentional serifs in that "sans serif" inscription; the style of the letters that are without serifs seems the same, as if ready to put them on. I can almost imagine that their "serif man" was far too slow, and that this inscription was being done on the day they finally gave him the sack. :) TooManyFingers (talk) 15:27, 1 September 2025 (UTC)

Ha, I know what you mean, it has the stress contrast of a serif typeface without serifs. Mosley felt it was a bit of a one-off, but he was "quite fond" of it. I put more about it into the article National Trust (typeface) about a typeface by Mosley's star pupil Paul Barnes based on it, but couldn't think of a way to fit that into this article in the time I had, am going to work on that. Now added the extra sources. Kris Sowersby's Domaine Sans is independently built on a similar concept-a high-contrast serif typeface but without the serifs, his blog is interesting reading. And Barnes has done a few other typefaces (Chiswick and Darby) with similar concepts. Blythwood (talk) 00:46, 3 September 2025 (UTC)
