Using for Jabal/Jabel/Jebal/Jebel/Jbel/Djebel

[edit]

30-Oct-2008: All the variations of words Jabal, Jabel, Jebel, Jbel, Djebel, Jibal, etc. have been used for the Arabic word meaning "mountain, hill or slope" (as elevations). Some places or mountains have been named by either of the multiple spellings, and so I have joined all together on this one disambiguation page.

Considering the growing revision count (of edits-per-page), I believe that using this single disambiguation page will foster far fewer multiple edits (revisions) than having separate disambiguation pages for each various spelling. I think separate pages would elevate total edits among the pages, trying to move terms (from page to page) closer to each spelling, or actually repeating the same term on several of the multiple pages, in case someone didn't read the other pages. Plus, there was no obvious direct meaning to assign to each term, many of which had 100,000 or 200,000 Google hits with "mountain" naming several different mountains.

The spelling that seemed most rare was "Jbel" (Google hits=7250), but it was clearly tied to several mountains in Morocco, such as Jbel Toubkal (Jebel Toubkal), Jbel Mgoum, Jbel Sahro/Saghro, Jbel Kamanja, Jbel Bouhalla, Jbel Sirwa, etc.

Of course, if the decision changes in the future, then any of the spellings can be split into new disambiguation pages, copying the related text from this page. -Wikid77 (talk) 03:29, 30 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
