Would anybody be able to accurately provide me with the total number of mobile phone subscribers there are in Jersey and what percentage penetration that represents of the permanent population of Jersey? pls advise alistair.swain@ezipin.com.au

I have tried to have a quick check, but all I could find is that it has 13% of the mobile market in Guernsey though its sub, Wave Telecom. Telecom is a full blown monopoly on the baliwick so it has 100% of all the mobiles on the island.159753 07:23, 29 August 2006 (UTC)

I doubt it still has 100% of the market in Jersey anymore. Although the number is still probably over 90%. Sure seem to be making inroads very quickly. Last report I saw suggested there are more than 100,000 mobile phones in use in Jersey. Upyourego 15:35, 06 November 2006 (GMT)

Conflict of interest editing

I have updated the Community Involvement section of the page with factual and independently sourced citations. The references are predominately from independent news sources based in the Channel Islands, including and . Please refrain entirely from editing the article, and limit yourself to requesting changes here on the talk-page (instructions in the section immediately below this). I'd normally have rolled the page back to this version, but hesitate to do so because (a) that version is so direly under-referenced and (b) both Curb Safe Charmer and Theroadislong have made edits here since that version, so I'd like to hear their opinions on what should be done here. OK, so it turns out to have been a copyvio from the day it was created. The (presumed) source page is apparently not archived before October 2007, but we can be pretty sure that for Jersey Telecom to have copied the content from us they would have had to do so in the four-hour window between the creation of the page and the addition of the word "German" in the paragraph on the occupation – and that is disappearingly improbable. Thank you for your understanding, Julienmorel. You don't need to worry about removing any unreferenced content – someone else will do that if there's agreement to do so after there's been some discussion here. As above, you should limit yourself to requesting changes here on this page, the talk-page. The contents of the company's history page were copy-pasted here in 2004; that page doesn't carry any explicit waiver of copyright, so that is copyright violation – which is strictly not tolerated here. All that content, and any content that derives from it (through subsequent copy-editing and the like) will need to be completely removed. I'd like to say that that will happen within a week or so, but there's a substantial backlog in this area, so it may be quite a bit longer. It is only interested in what people who have no connection with JT Group Limited have chosen to publish about it; the article should be limited to a summary of what such independent sources have said. Thank you Justlettersandnumbers and Theroadislong. I promise I will leave you alone - and will return with referenced suggestions on the talk-page - but I have one final question (for today!) I absolutely appreciate that you're not interested in anything said or published by JT but how does one publish a history of the company (or any organisation) if the company itself holds that information? Even if there is a published history of an organisation, it likely to have been commissioned by the organisation itself for its own records. Could I, for instance, suggest editorial (clearly in the talk section) based on JT's Our History section of its website? It would then, presumably, be verified for publication by editors such as your good selves? JT Global is a regulated incorporated entity owned by a sovereign government of a British Crown Dependency so it has a high level of credibility. In order to restore and update the page, I have conducted my own research and have drafted the text below for your editing. JT Global

JT Global is a full-service Tier-1 global consumer and business enterprise provider based in the Channel Islands. It is an incorporated company 100 per cent owned by the States of Jersey.

The company operates fixed, mobile and broadband networks in Jersey and Guernsey and international data hosting and global managed services.

JT has a presence in 11 global locations and has 600 roaming agreements with other telecoms operators

JT is regulated by the Channel Islands Regulatory Competition Authorities.

History

JT can trace its roots back to 1895 when Jersey’s first telephone exchange was opened by the National Telephone Company. The network was taken over by the British General Post Office in 1912 and then brought by the States of Jersey in 1923 and renamed the States Telephone Committee.

The States of Jersey was the regulator, owner and operator of the only telecommunications provider (trading as Jersey Telecom) in Jersey until 1 January 2003, when the Telecommunications (Jersey) Law 2002 came into force. On that date, the operational activities of the States Telecommunications Board were incorporated and Jersey Telecom Limited commenced business under a new regulatory regime.

The law ended Jersey Telecom’s monopoly in the Jersey market by empowering an independent regulator, the Jersey Competition Regulatory Authority (now the Channel Islands Competition and Regulatory Authorities ) to issue licences to new operators.

JT expanded into Guernsey in 2002, when it launched Wave Telecom after receiving a licence from the island’s Office of Utility Regulation.

JT has also expanded internationally through the acquisition of broadband provider Newtel Guernsey in 2009 , Boston-based mobile virtual network operator ekit in 2010 and London-based managed services’ provider Worldstone in 2012.

In June 2015, it was announced in the States of Jersey that Bharti Airtel, the parent company of Jersey-based mobile operator Airtel, had made an offer to merge JT and Airtel, with Bharti Airtel, proposing to purchase 25% of the merged company, with the States retaining just under 75% of the shareholding. . However, in May 2016, it was announced that the proposed merger had collapsed.

In 2010, JT launched ‘Gigabit Jersey’ – a project to connect every premise in Jersey to a full-fibreoptic network. . The first homes were connected in February 2012 . The project ran into difficulties in 2013 due to a dispute between JT and contractors and JT established a new subsidiary to take the programme forward . The States also withdrew the offer of a dividend holiday in 2015 thus its original target dates were reassessed. In November 2015, JT said that the project was behind schedule and would not meet its 2016 completion deadline. However, in January 2017, JT announced that it had completed 70% of its planned connections to Jersey’s fibre-optic broadband network and would be completed in the first half of 2018, attributing the delay on 3,000 new homes that have been built since the start of the project in 2012. .

JT in the community

Between 2005 and 2016, JT was main sponsor of Jersey Live, the largest music festival in the Channel Islands . The festival attracted several high-profile bands and performers, including Kasabian, Snow Patrol, The Prodigy, Ed Sheeran, Paul Weller, Noel Gallagher and Ellie Goulding. In Guernsey, it has been the principal sponsor of the Cobo Bay Hotel Summer Balcony Gigs since 2012. In 2016, JT ran a ‘Summer of Music’ in Guernsey, sponsoring several events, including JT Market Rocks in Market Place, The Gathering Festival, Chateau De Son Electronic Music Festival, Proms in the Bay and Junior Battle of the Bands In 2017, they continued supporting music in the Channel Islands, sponsoring House Events, a Guernsey-based events company who brought to the CI events such as House on Herm, Rock on Herm and Sunset on Herm .

Each year, JT staff support related charities in its principal locations: Jersey, Guernsey, London, Melbourne and Boston. Between 2010 and 2017, JT staff raised over £140,000 for their annual chosen charities . In 2016, JT employees raised £25,410.98 for baby-related charities, including Jersey Friends of SCBU and the Priaulx Premature Baby Foundation .

Fundraising events included a Staff Charity Day and a ‘Join Together’ free music concert in Guernsey. In 2017 JT’s chosen charity is Jersey Alzheimer’s Association, in Jersey and Guernsey Alzheimer’s Association, in Guernsey. In September 2017, ten members of staff skydived over St Aubin’s Bay in Jersey, raising £1,000 for Jersey Alzheimer’s Association.

JT has been the principal sponsor of National Coding Week since its inception in September 2014. It is one of two Platinum Sponsors, alongside CodexCPD, the training and development business owned by the founders of National Coding Week, Richard Rolfe and Jordan Love .

In October 2017, JT announced the results of its 2017 Directory recycling campaign. 25 Jersey primary schools collected over 8,000 telephone directories. JT donated a touch-screen tablet computer for every 150 directories collected. .

Cleanup

Now that the dust has apparently settled, can we blank out the copyrighted material and put together whatever encyclopedic content there may be for this topic? I think there are enough references in the news to justify its relevancy. The page in its current form is giving a very bad impression, not just to the company, but to Wikipedia. I have taken some time to trudge through the page and remove all of the promotional material, and so forth. Added some sources too, but most of this is just not sourceable. I believe the improvement tags have been solved, as all of the COI editors are named here on the talk page in the template at the top. Suggested edit to JT Fibre

I am a newly signed up editor and have declared my COI as a paid editor of a Jersey-based PR company that acts on behalf of JT Global. I have followed the conversations on here with one of my predecessors. Before properly familiarising myself with the rules and policies surrounding editing on Wikipedia, I did try to make a couple of minor changes to the page which were removed. My suggestion for a change regards the ranking of JT as third fastest in the world for broadband speeds. That changed in September when JT moved into first place, ahead of Lichtenstein, Iceland and Andorra in the World Broadband Speed League 2021 which is produced by the comparison site, cable.co.uk.
