Islamic Consultative Assembly (Iran) → Islamic Consultative Assembly –There is no other legislature in the world with the name Islamic Consultative Assembly. A search for that automatically redirects you here. Therefore, the "Iran" in parenthesis is unecessary. I propose this page be moved to simply state "Islamic Consultative Assembly".--RM (Be my friend) 01:16, 3 August 2011 (UTC)

Agreed. There's no reason to use a name that's more complex or longer than is necessary to disambiguate and maintain precision, per WP:TITLE. Bastin 09:14, 12 October 2011 (UTC)

Orphaned references in Islamic Consultative Assembly

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Islamic Consultative Assembly's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Nature of Democracy in Iran

The United Kingdom parliament is described in Wikipedia as bicameral, even though the House of Lords is not democratically elected; only partially appointed democratically. The UK parliament has always been referred to as bicameral even when in the past the majority of the House of Lords members had inherited their positions from birth, via their fathers or mothers. Therefore to be consistent with the UK parliament being described as bicameral, Wikipedia needs to also describe the Iranian parliament as bicameral. The elected Islamic Consultative Assembly acts as the Iranian equivalent of the House of Commons, the quasi lower house or quasi lower chamber in Britain. The unelected, partially democratically appointed, Guardian Council in Iran acts as the Iranian equivalent of the House of Lords, the quasi upper house or quasi upper chamber in Britain. The Iranian upper house has a built-in theological bias rather than the built-in conservative aristocratic bias the British Upper house has but so what, in structure aren't the two obviously identical? @Sa.vakilian: Why was this article moved without WP:MOVEREQ? It seems a little too bold given that "Islamic Consultative Assembly" is what is used in Encyclopædia Britannica, Encyclopædia Iranica, the U.S. government and even by Iran's own mission to the UN and the Office of the Supreme Leader of Iran. Per WP:COMMONNAME, Wikipedia "prefers to use the name that is most frequently used to refer to the subject in English-language reliable sources".--Anders Feder (talk) 09:03, 27 July 2015 (UTC)

Religious leaders' automatic unelected seats

According to the Guardian, a reputable but poorly edited UK newspaper and news site: "Only two countries in the world – Britain and Iran – have religious leaders in their legislatures by right. Twenty-six C of E bishops – around a quarter of the total – have reserved seats in the House of Lords, with the right to debate and vote on changes to the law." ( https://www.theguardian.com/world/2017/dec/10/prince-charles-ascension-time-for-debate-on-disestablishment-says-report ) So, do religious leaders have automatic seats and voting votes in the Iranian consultative assembly? History

Article says parliament was founded 1906, but the history starts with the Islamic Republic. Should there be a seperate article for the Majlis before the revolution, or should this article's history section be expanded to cover that first seven decades? Voting system?

What voting system is used to elect the assembly? According to the article there are 290 members but only 207 constiturencies, suggesting some constituencoies are multi-member. -- Cabalamat (talk) 06:33, 21 November 2024 (UTC)
