Per MOS:INSTITUTION, "Also treat as a proper name a shorter but still specific form". In this case, "school" is certainly shorter, but not specific. "Generic words for institutions, organizations, companies, etc., and rough descriptions of them (university, college, hospital, church, high school) do not take capitals:" "
Correct (generic): The university offers programs in arts and sciences." This is true even if "the university" is thought to be a shorter version of "the University of Thumperdale". Christhespelleryack14:36, 4 January 2025 (UTC)Reply
