Under the section Spanish Rule, this article states at the very end that "Only Spaniards were allowed inside the walled city; the natives and ethnic Chinese residents were only limited by the Spanish authorities to live outside the walls of Intramuros." I'm wondering if this was always the case. I seem to recall reading somewhere that Mestizos were also allowed at one point. And later on, natives and Chinese were allowed inside as well, but were not allowed to take residence. Boreanesia 4 July 2005 18:53 (UTC)

Rename to Intramuros, Manila?

[edit]

Any objections? Circa 1900 03:02, 13 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Intramuros is not Latin. It is Spanish. The Latin plural would have been "intramurii".

What do the asterisks indicate

PLM Chapel

[edit]

Is the Draft:PLM Chapel worth a mention at Intramuros#Churches? Is it a church or a chapel? --SmokeyJoe (talk) 03:30, 13 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

Requested move 30 June 2026

[edit]
The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

The result of the move request was: moved. Consensus is that this is the primary topic. (closed by non-admin page mover) 1isall (talk | contribs) 23:45, 7 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

Intramuros, ManilaIntramuros.nhals8 recently did the reverse of this move request citing the reason Add parentheses/disambiguator: considering that «Intramuros» is also a general latin term for walled a[r]eas. I disagree with this move so I am doing a move request instead of reverting to establish consensus. Per WP:PRIMARYTOPIC, I will argue that Manila's walled district is the primary topic for the term "Intramuros". If you check all articles that start with "Intramuros", all refer to the Manila district or some aspect of it (golf course, administration, movie, religious procession, etc.). The only other article is about a Spanish-language journal, that barely gets any views compared to the district article. The district therefore meets the two criteria (WP:PT1, WP:PT2) for becoming a Wikipedia primary topic and ought to get the non-disambiguated article title. — seav (talk) 21:47, 30 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

Support as per nom. It's very clearly the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. Cacophonic peace (talk) 03:34, 1 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
None of what you wrote says anything about whether the concept of "inside the walls" is the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC for the term, and WP:PRIMARYTOPIC is the relevant guidelines for determining if the Manila district should be titled just "Intramuros" or disambiguated as "Intramuros, Manila".
To hammer the point home, "magna carta" is Latin for "great charter", but we currently have the Magna Carta article title refer to the landmark English charter of 1215, precisely because that specific charter is the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC for the term "magna carta". This is despite the fact that the term can refer to other topics, including a British band, a series of Korean video games, and a Dutch barge. Again, the relevant guidelines is WP:PRIMARYTOPIC and the Manila district meets the definition of primary topic for the term. —seav (talk) 09:44, 1 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
