Permanent upgrade or tied to the chip / mainboard combo?

Did the upgrade permanently alter the CPU or was it tied to the specific CPU and mainboard pair? A permanent upgrade would have the CPU retain its new features if moved to another board. The other way would see the CPU drop back to its base features and different upgradeable CPUs installed on the board not getting the upgrades. Bizzybody (talk) 07:31, 29 March 2017 (UTC)Reply
