Do not mess me up, I can not see the real difference between the IS and other transposons.

History / Discovery

Could someone add a bit of history, how they were discovered, perhaps its own subsection onto the main article?

I would like to explain this request: I have here in my local notes that IS elements were first discovered in E. coli, in the gal operon. However had, I have not noted down WHEN, and perhaps this may be inaccurate, anyway. This is why I think a short history/discovery part would be useful for this article. That way people can see where they were actually indeed first discovered (considering the fact that there are many IS elements in different genomes, it could have been discovered in other bacteria or organisms as well - that is one reason why it should be mentioned in the main article too). 2A02:8388:1641:8380:1535:595B:9280:DF61 (talk) 15:41, 22 April 2020 (UTC)
