The Correct definition of Insertion Loss can be found in these places

This one is incorrect; I don't care if it says .gov on the end. It is only correct in the special case that the input impedance of the device in question is perfectly matched to the source/generator such that there is no reflection looking into port 1.

Either the definition here should be fixed, or an explanation showing in which engineering circles each definition correctly applies.

Phew, I thought we had could it really wrong, until I read "It is only correct in the special case that the input impedance of the device in question is perfectly matched to the source/generator such that there is no reflection looking into port 1." Which is what you get (hopefully) in telecoms/datacoms. I haven't time to change it at the moment. Edgepedia (talk) 08:55, 5 December 2008 (UTC)
