Inmac was a sizable public company that was trend-setting in its direct-marketing approach. I'd say that makes it notable.
I worked for Inmac in the UK, 1984-1991. As I understood it, I,N,M,A,C did not stand for anything but was a name dreamed up by a PR agency. It was deliberately neutral and meaningless and yet techie-sounding.
The firm's culture was heavily influenced by the book "In Search of Excellence" by Peters and Waterman. Stratopastor (talk) 11:18, 22 August 2015 (UTC)
I started working for Inmac in 1978 when it opened the Grand Prairie, TX office. Inmac did stand for International Mini Computer Accessories Corp. At the time we only sold products for mainframe and min computers, since the PC had not come out yet. Ken Eldred thought the name was to long to put on the direct mailer catalog so it was shorten to Inmac.
