Old or new names in citations
[edit]I was wondering whether Wikipedia has any policy, guidelines or conventions with regards to citations to journals that have changed their name. Say the Journal of Foo changes its name to Foo Quarterly in 2000. How do we cite Adam Adams 1999 paper Foo for fun and profit?
Should it be:
Adam Adams (1999) Foo for fun and profit. Journal of Foo.
or
Adam Adams (1999) Foo for fun and profit. Foo Quarterly.

- As far as I know, WP has no policy about that. We should follow what is normal policy in academics, which is to cite the name of the journal at the time of publishing, regardless of later name changes. I guess you're referring to the editorial that is cited in the current article. That reference was generated using the "cite doi" template, but can be edited if needed. --Crusio (talk) 06:42, 27 January 2011 (UTC)
