Restructuring followup: removal of image of Taikyoku shōgi

I restructed the article and brought it up to date because it was missing a lot of relevant information. On that note, I would like to propose the removal of the image of Taikyoku shōgi from the article, since that game is not infinite chess and it's weird that it is featured so prominently here. Instead, I would like to replace it with an actual infinite chess position, for example something like https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Chess_on_an_Infinite_Plane_(starting_setup_of_pieces).png or, even better, an image from the paper "Transfinite game values in infinite chess" featuring some interesting infinite chess position with a transfinite game value. At a first glance, it seems like a great deal of the material you've added violates WP:OR or uses sources that do not meet WP:RS. Note in particular that forums like MathOverflow fall afoul of WP:UGC, even if the people taking part in the discussion are subject-matter experts. --JBL (talk) 17:33, 20 February 2026 (UTC)

The main reason I added the MathOverflow links is that several of the math papers published on infinite chess explicitly credit these MathOverflow discussions and list them as references, e.g. the paper "Transfinite game values in infinite chess" published in the "Integers" journal. That's why I felt that they are relevant or at the very least helpful to include. I was unsure how to more properly state that in the article, maybe it would have helped if I had made that more explicit? If there is no way to keep the MathOverflow links as references, I would suggest moving them to the External Links section.

Other than that, I already removed several references to nonreputable sources as part of my changes, like to the Chess Variant Pages and the boardgamegeek website. There is still one reference like that left, should that also be removed?

(As a final point, I just want to stress that nothing in the article in its current form is my own original research, I just tried to collate a summary of all prominent references to infinite chess in the Background section and summarize the state of the mathematical literature in the Math section.)
