Infinity

Infinity is not the same as infinite as far as dab pages are concerned. As its wiktionary entry states, it is a related term. This page is for exact matches. Buzz Lightyear fans would be puzzled by the phrase, "To infinite and beyond!" It has its own dab page. Infinite set is a WP:PTM. Clarityfiend (talk) 21:47, 23 August 2012 (UTC)

The relevant question is, "What would a person who ended up at the page titled "infinite" be looking for?" And the answer is that such a person would almost certainly be looking for an article about mathematics, probably the article Infinity. Both the MOS and the dab guidelines are clear that primary meanings should come first. How about something like the phrasing used in Equal for Infinity? You admit Infinite set is a partial match, so why should it not go in See also? Clarityfiend (talk) 22:45, 23 August 2012 (UTC)

Infinitely better idea: Redirect Infinite to Infinity, following the principle of least surprise as it is by far the main topic; rename this page Infinite (disambiguation); and add a redirect hatnote to Infinity. In mathematics, when speaking of a set-related topic (as is usual), the word "infinite" means that the set in question is an infinite set. "Infinite" literally means not finite, i.e. without any bound ("unendliche" (un-ending) in German). "Infinite" is the adjective, while "infinity" is the equivalent noun. All other uses of the words "infinite" and "infinity" are derived from these and thus secondary.

The article infinite set focuses on the mathematics, while infinity deals more with the related history and culture. JRSpriggs (talk) 07:32, 24 August 2012 (UTC)

The only reason that I can see not to make Infinite a redirect is that when it was one, people kept changing it -- look at the edit history to see a variety of such attempts. --JBL (talk) 17:58, 24 August 2012 (UTC)

Besides this article isn't very long, then a partial title match definitely not effective at all in this dialogue, but at the same time, it's even welcoming, maybe this gonna add something else to the article.
