Bioethics views on Infanticide

Do you think recent views of bioethicists, including the argument for its morality in certain cases put forth by Alberto Giubilini and Francesco Minerva, or Peter Singer's views should be included in the article? 103.252.53.57 (talk) 08:04, 18 June 2024 (UTC)

Yes, they should. We just need sources that talk about their views, and then we can summarize those sources, per WP:V. Should probably go in a new section, maybe "Ethics", or "Views of Bio-ethicists"? ---Avatar317^(talk) 23:11, 19 June 2024 (UTC)

These modern ethical views are certainly interesting to note, but I found it a little shocking that they are the only bioethical views given with no counterpoint cited. This gives the impression that the prevailing view in ethics is that infanticide is permissible, which seems quite preposterous. I did find the below in which Blackshaw and Roger specifically reject these ideas and actually suggest that the unethical nature of infanticide entails ethical problems with abortion as well. That is certainly a forceful (and some may suggest reactionary) counterpoint that should probably be included to avoid misrepresenting the current state of the discussion in ethics.

I agree that the current short section seems very unbalanced and certainly doesn't reflect mainstream ethics. Feel free to add to it to make it more balanced, I'd say. Gawaon (talk) 12:28, 18 May 2026 (UTC)

Self published sources

"Child skeletons with the marks of sacrifice have been found also in Egypt dating 950–720 BCE." is from a self published source i.e. lulu.com. It has not been added to the Egyptian section where the reader could see that it is contradicted by academic sources and I request that it be removed. 92.40.192.78 (talk) 18:25, 21 August 2024 (UTC)

Political Mass Infanticide and the Bible

Of course, this article is quite extensive already, but I came here to look for a section concerning infanticide and the Bible specifically. It might be interesting to add an entire subsection on this topic. Infanticide is mentioned in a number of places in the Bible, but two instances that seem somewhat unique discuss the directed mass killing of infants. This occurs in Exodus where Pharaoh is reported to have order the killing of infant Israelite males as enforced population control and in the gospels where Herod is claimed to have ordered the killing of infants due to the report he received of the birth of a "king of the Jews."

I'm not personally familiar with the historiography around either of these events, but the use of infanticide by those in political power for their own political purposes is a category I don't see discussed or acknowledged here. I'd be interested to see more information concerning the historiography surrounding these two episodes and other instances of politically motivated mass infanticide.
