The infobox mentions that there are ~362,274 Indian diaspora in Singapore as of 2020, and provides a link from Singapore Department of Statistics as the source. However this figure is a gross underestimation of the true diaspora population size in Singapore for the following reasons -
a) The Singapore government census only provides breakdown of its resident population (that is to say, Singapore CitizensandPermanent Residents (PRs)). This is elaborated on page 3 of this document, which clearly illustrates that the total of the 4.04 million population as indicated in the earlier census report refers to the resident population (which is shown to comprise of Citizens + Permanent Residents per the infographic pie chart). Thus, the 362,274 figure as per the 2020 Singapore Census report refers only to Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents who are of an ethnic Indian origin (and thus mainly PIOs/OCIs and a limited number of NRIs who are Singapore PRs but still hold an Indian passport), and leaves out a large number of migrant population - many of whom are in Singapore on work visas - a combination of white-collar Employment Pass holders, semi-skilled S-pass holders, blue-collar Work Permit holders and household helpers referred to as Migrant Domestic Workers (MDWs) as well as their dependents.
While the Singapore government does not provide a breakdown by nationality of it's non-resident population (totalling about 1.86 million as of 2024 ) , a study by India's Ministry of External Affairs Consular Services division indicates that Indian nationals comprise about 350,000 or ~24% of the non-resident population, albeit on a lower base of 1.45 million total non-resident population. So extrapolating the same figure for 2024's 1.86 million non-resident population would yield a total of ~450,000 non-resident Indians in Singapore
Thus, the actual correct estimate for the number of Overseas Indians in Singapore would therefore be around ~812,000.
Not sure if the estimate for the population of non-resident Indians in Singapore (i.e. excluding ethnically Indian Singaporeans or Permanent Residents) per the source above unequivocally meets the criteria for WP:RS, but in the absence of any other official sources for this particular datapoint I'm inclined to follow the WP:BOLD policy and will be updating the figures for Singapore in the infobox accordingly. Should anyone find more reliable sources that provide more definitive figures, the infobox can be updated. Batram (talk) 13:56, 17 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
