- Indigenous implies that the knowledge systems being promoted are those of the indigenous peoples of India. That's not what is being promoted so we shouldn't use that word. RegentsPark (comment) 16:06, 11 June 2025 (UTC)

- Your first reference, while it does mention the government's promotion of Indian Knowledge Systems, is to a paper published by tijer which is a predatory publisher. The other two mention indigenous knowledge in the context of India, but crucially do not mention IKS. The first reference is the Heinrich Böll Foundation, which, I gather, is interested in progressive causes within the context of geopolitics and has no connection to IKS that I can see. The second paper is in the field of information management and, as it is from 2006, is not really relevant to the later IKS initiatives. jps (talk) 16:49, 11 June 2025 (UTC)

- I think something worth considering in this conversation is that in the Indian context, the word "indigenous" is often used simply as a contrast to "foreign". So you hear things like "indigenous defence systems" and whatnot in a modern context. I do not know what the sources say about IKS being about indigenous knowledge even in this expanded meaning, though. GreekApple123 (talk) 16:59, 11 June 2025 (UTC)

- I suggest not using it. "Indian Knowledge Systems" is quite clear by itself and there are indigenous people in India. Even if the term is used differently in India, it just adds a layer of confusion. RegentsPark (comment) 18:28, 11 June 2025 (UTC)
