[edit]I'm grateful to Giano for this article. For me, imperial staircase is associated primarily with the Wurzburg Rezidenz. I suspect that the epithet "imperial" stems from Vienna, where the works of Fischer von Erlach first made it popular, but that needs substantiating. Talking about Russia, there is a very grand imperial staircase in the Russian Museum. The one in Peterhof is also nice, while the Catherine Palace has two in different styles. --Ghirla -трёп- 18:54, 18 November 2006 (UTC)
- Well funnily enough, for me the word always conjures upthe one in the Winter Palace. If you read the ref about El Escorial it seems the idea comes from there. I'm not personally happy with that, but that is what the ref says - so until I can prove otherwise that will have to suffice. Giano 19:03, 18 November 2006 (UTC)
Picture caption accuracy
[edit]Isn't the staircase in the Winter Palace in St. Petersburg (which is currently shown in the first picture) a double staircase, not an imperial staircase? ~ Wikipedian19265478 (talk) 03:05, 15 September 2010 (UTC)
