"Non-Fiction"?

"Immigration Wars: Forging an American Solution is a 2013 non-fiction book..." it says in the article.

No, I'm not claiming that it's fiction, just that there ought to be some other category. This is clearly a work of political commentary, of opinion, and perhaps of toe-dipping into the waters of candidacy.

I would prefer "work of political commentary" or perhaps "work of political advocacy" to "non-fiction book." In the traditional sense of the words this is clearly a political pamphlet, though our deracinated modern minds can't encompass the idea of a pamphlet running to more than two pages or containing an idea.
