Product Safety Scandal Category

I suggest that the Product Safety Scandal category be removed. Yes I've heard of Foxconn and I know there may be issues there. --MarsInSVG (talk) 15:07, 19 September 2013 (UTC)

I fail to see what you having "heard of Foxconn" has to do with whether or not this article discusses a product safety scandal. A "product safety scandal" means there was a widespread dangerous defect with the product. Which according to this article, there was, and Apple issued a massive recall. Since this article discusses that, it seems appropriate that this article be in that category. Why do you suggest otherwise? --173.252.44.52 (talk) 06:10, 6 February 2019 (UTC)

Screen durability and battery swelling issues

Hi, all. I have split IPod Nano#Reception into two smaller sections, for better readability. Individual paragraphs now follow major timeline events (initial reception, screen durability problems reported, Apple acknowledges publicly).

The section on battery swelling potentially causing the screen to discolor or break is still problematic. I have tagged it as WP:OR for now, with citations requested. I'm sure that the swelling issue _has_ happened, for somebody, probably in early production runs, but there are no sources cited here except an iFixit.com repair guide for replacing the battery.

Because of the amount of time that has passed, and because there are no specific generation(s) mentioned as being affected, my (totally fallible) instinct would be just to remove that whole section. Please chime in if there are reasons why that would be a bad idea. --Ernstkm (talk) 14:45, 8 March 2022 (UTC)

2nd Gen last paragraph

There's a mistake. I think where it says about Apple donating$10 for each red ipod sold to the ProjectRed Initiative. It should be, Product Red https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Product_Red If that's the same thing. Seems to be anyway. Hardly matters i guess but I'm sure the Product Red people might appreciate the link to.. seems to be for a positive cause anyway.. 24.19.141.129 (talk) 10:52, 2 June 2023 (UTC)

It is incorrect to claim that all (PRODUCT) RED finishes for iPod Nano generations 2-7 were only available through the online Apple Store. There is no credible evidence to claim that such is fact. A press release from 2006 announces the (PRODUCT) RED special edition finish for the recently-released Nano 2nd generation: https://www.apple.com/ie/newsroom/2006/10/13Apple-Announces-iPod-nano-PRODUCT-RED-Special-Edition/. The article claims the following about purchasing availability of the finish: "The iPod nano (PRODUCT) RED Special Edition is available worldwide in a 4GB model for £129 (inc VAT) through the Apple Store." The "Apple Store" does not necessarily imply only the online store. I was able to find evidence that for the iPod Nano 2nd generation, the PRODUCT(RED) finish was available exclusively through Apple's online New Zealand store: https://www.apple.com/newsroom/2006/12/06Apple-Launches-iTunes-Online-Apple-Stores-in-New-Zealand/. The article states: "The iPod nano (PRODUCT) RED Special Edition is available today in a 4GB model for NZ$349 including GST and an 8GB model for NZ$449 including GST through the online Apple Store (www.apple.co.nz)". Yet, even this does not necessarily imply that this exclusivity will remain the case forever after the date the article was published.

Change the footnote "Exclusively available on the online Apple store" to be more nuanced; such is only maybe the case for the 2nd gen Nano in (PRODUCT) RED. Remove the footnote from all other (PRODUCT) RED finishes on all other models. ~2026-33554-28 (talk) 23:50, 22 June 2026 (UTC)
