Article title
[edit]This article should probably be renamed to IC 1318. Unattractive as it is, it is far more common to see that than the quite rare Sadr region (capitalised either way) or the somewhat more common but less unique Butterfly nebula. Lithopsian (talk) 22:29, 8 January 2019 (UTC)
images need labels
[edit]the images show various nebulae etc and the captions name them but without labels it's impossible to know what is what. Paulhummerman (talk) 20:36, 5 July 2024 (UTC)

Sadr Region → IC 1318 – This nebula is more commonly called IC 1318 or the Gamma Cygni Nebula; the name "Sadr Region" has some use by amateur astronomers, but that's likely due to Wikipedia. I see only one, recent scientific paper that uses the term, but there it refers to a broader region and not just this nebula. SevenSpheres (talk) 23:18, 22 April 2026 (UTC)
- Week Oppose/Support Because i like the Sadr region name and give it a uniqueness but i think the biggest concern should be expanding the article and i will try to expand it. Abdullah1099 (talk) 13:12, 23 April 2026 (UTC)
- "I like it" isn't a valid reason. It's a little-used name that seems to have been invented by Wikipedia. SevenSpheres (talk) 14:39, 23 April 2026 (UTC)
- Yeah i am in support but i think Gamma Cygni Nebula also have another name Butterfly Nebula is a better name than IC 1318. what is all of there stats Abdullah1099 (talk) 18:41, 23 April 2026 (UTC)
- Gamma Cygni Nebula could be used as the title, but Butterfly Nebula is ambiguous, it can refer to several nebulae. SevenSpheres (talk) 18:59, 23 April 2026 (UTC)

- Also i think the image should be changed to File:Gamma Cygni Combine10s (18842750261).jpg Abdullah1099 (talk) 13:18, 23 April 2026 (UTC)
- Support: neither of the references given in the article uses the name Sadr Region. There are a couple of journal hits, but they're more incidentally references to the region than attempts at a proper name. More general searches are hampered by the notoriety of the region in Iraq. I did find a couple of astronomical hits, both very recent and probably copied from Wikipedia. Lithopsian (talk) 18:33, 23 April 2026 (UTC)
- Support: I'd generally prefer a name like Gamma Cygni Nebula to a bunch of letters and numbers but looking at Ngrams there are no results for Gamma Cygni Nebula and Google Scholar returns only 13 results for "Gamma Cygni Nebula" compared to the 224 you get searching for IC 1318. It would indeed appear IC 1318 is more commonly used than Gamma Cygni Nebula. ⹃Maltazarian ᚾparleyinvestigateᛅ 17:58, 29 April 2026 (UTC)
