December 2018

[edit]

re: "On December 28, 2018, ICQ stopped working on unofficial clients." Can anyone verify this? ICQ continues to work for me on Pidgin Denovoid (talk) 12:21, 31 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

They dropped old auth scheme, so some clients (unofficial and official like 2003b) are stopped work. Pidgin uses new scheme. But if ICQ owner (Mail.ru corp) in the future disable the old protocol (OSCAR) entirely, pidgin will die (and will need to implement a new protocol - WIM). 109.172.108.69 (talk) 17:48, 6 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

Reads as an ad?

[edit]

The section about features reads as an advertisement. For example:

"When logging into an account, the chat can be accessed from any device thanks to cloud synchronization"

Thanks to?

There seem to be a lot of these redundant words in the text that aren't that objective. 82.168.248.250 (talk) 08:13, 15 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

Category Request:

[edit]

Please add Category:Defunct social networking services to the bottom of the ICQ article. VK permanently shut the service down so it belongs in the defunct category. ~2026-33345-46 (talk) 07:32, 6 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

This is already in the Categories, which are right at the bottom of the page.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 08:02, 6 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

Add back to Defunct Social Networking services category (as ICQ, not Talk:ICQ)

[edit]

ICQ should be added back to the Defunct Social Networking services category. While it started as an instant messenger, its later iterations included modern social networking features like profiles, feeds, and social status updates before shutting down in 2024. When you add it back, make sure to add the category tag to the main article page so it appears cleanly as ICQ. Do not call it 'Talk:ICQ' in the category list, as linking the discussion page instead of the actual article is incorrect and messy . - Me ~2026-33542-83 (talk) 15:36, 6 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
