Out dated and country specific
[edit]Interesting from a British and historic point of view, but otherwise very out of date! Here in Quebec the hypothec is alive and well, as it is in many other civilian jurisdictions. I will try and edit when I find the time. 70.80.27.104 02:14, 20 October 2005 (UTC)
- How come the links to other languages generally land on pages that equate to Mortgage, rather than hypothec? Shalom S. (talk) 03:17, 15 January 2017 (UTC)
- In French and other latin languages at least, the term hypothèque, hypoteco, etc. which first and foremost designate a real right of guarantee, but in the common parlance can also designate a mortgage loan (formally called prêt hypothécaire in French, or "hypothec loan"), ie. a loan used to acquire real estate and which gives the creditor a right of guarantee (the hypothec) on it in case of defaulting.
- As for the articles, it appears to be complicated by the fact that the French wiki, for example, doest not really have an article on "Hypothèque", as it is a redirect to fr:Hypothèque en droit français (hypothec/mortgage law of France).--Nonztp (talk) 01:20, 1 June 2019 (UTC)
Review importance and warnings.
[edit]Some of the topics discuss in this page are very important. Some of the mechanism that were used leading to the 2008 crisis remain in use today. So I am very surprise to see the "low importance" flag on the top of the talk page.
On the front page, the 3 warnings could be replace. I thnk this long page could be split, historical content, content about other countries. and content that has critical importance in world finance today. how funds managers are able to leverage this tool with no public oversight or regulation.

- This article needs more citations. (June 2026)
The first one, seriously ? too technical ? the other two.. well, it probably depends on the section. That's why I propose we split the page. and improve the wording when necessary Kemisuto (talk) 07:54, 2 September 2026 (UTC)
