This article doesn't cite any sources; I don't know that any exist. I've been an academic linguist for more than ten years, but I've only ever heard the term "hybrid language" applied to computer languages and the like. I've just noticed that until recently the page was a redirect to Multi-paradigm programming language. That seems to confirm my understanding that hybrid language is used in reference to computer languages rather than natural languages in contact. Cnilep (talk) 02:06, 18 March 2009 (UTC)

It's a sensible term, but I'd never heard it either. The entire system of language-contact categories had been recast in terms of hybrid language, and it took some time to restore it. kwami (talk) 05:50, 19 March 2009 (UTC)

Kwami, I don't think I catch your meaning. When you say, "The entire system of language-contact categories had been recast in terms of hybrid language," are you referring to changes made to Wikipedia pages, or to historical events in the field of contact linguistics? or something else? I think he's referring to the new categories created last week by User:Licqua, Category:Hybrid languages and Category:Mixed languages and code-switches, which have now been deleted. Knepflerle (talk) 12:02, 19 March 2009 (UTC)
