While both Barrhead and The Hurlet are located within the East Renfrewshire council area, they are distinct settlements. The Hurlet is not part of Barrhead but exists as a separate entity, with its own geographical and historical identity. The Hurlet is more intrinsically linked to the area of Nitshill in Glasgow.
