Colour and size

Isn't human feces larger and darker than the feces shown on the picture?

Yes, it should darker from proper bile metabolism by the bacterias. It should be larger and diameter and quite less long. Producing that much wastes mean a lot of things are unabsorbed. I suspect a diet high in refined carbohydrates and deficient in proper fats. There is probably some inflammation too, given the small diameter of the stool.

Main image is unrepresentative, should be replaced

Okay, this has bugged me for a while. Obviously there's been lots of controversy over the main image for this article being objectionable or just plain gross, and obviously all of that is covered by WP:NOTCENSORED. However, I have a different issue with the image: no one's poop looks like this!

Why is it so orange? Why does it have so many black specks in it? It looks… unhealthy.

Are there any other usable images that could more properly represent the average human's stool? If not, I or someone else should seriously consider trying to donate a new replacement stool sample. Ithinkiplaygames (talk) 02:16, 15 February 2025 (UTC)

Human feces can in fact look like this and be healthy. It may be the lighting or the contents however I am not particulariliy inclined to go back and further analyze the photo myself. According to the bristol stool chart, the stool featured is healthy looking. As for colour, any shades of brown as long as they are not red, black, yellow or some other colour indicating a pathological process, are normal. I believe the defecator in question may have eaten some corn and beans. The black specks are likely bean skins and the yellow specks are likely the hulls of corn kernels. While the feces seem healthy in this instance, I would advocate for a smoother and more representative portrayal of human feces in order to avoid confusion. That one would be good but for the shadow, which ruins it, IMO. I do agree with Ithinkiplaygames that the current image is less than ideal. File:5038728052037 L.jpg would be perfect, except for the crappy resolution (sorry, couldn't resist).--Mojo Hand (talk) 00:31, 18 December 2025 (UTC)

I really don't see the need to change the current photo. It is probably the least shocking/vulgar of the images suggested which makes it a good candidate. I also do not feel the need to go looking for better photos but it seems that others are much more motivated than me to fulfill that role regardless.
